Re: Murphy's Marine Laws
rummaging around on the net looking for something re Murphy, I ran into this:
hanlon's Razor
Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.
Which would tend to explain about 99.9% of human behavior

Re: Murphy's Marine Laws
Funny thing Gordie, I heard "Murphy's Law" defined this way:
"The contrary of a welcome probability will assert itself at such a time as it will be least welcome."

Gord,
You're right! I forgot that it was "frustrating." Thanks for fixing it! Happy New year.

Re: Murphy's Marine Laws
Murphy consults with boat and parts designers...how else would that small proprietary part you just dropped in the middle of the boat bounce six times at just the right trajectory to send it overboard.

Re: Murphy's Marine Laws
Time to revive and old thread as I have noticed another one of Murphy's Laws. the law of screwdrivers.
If you need a Phillips head screwdriver (of which you have at least 6-8 of various sizes) you will find only flat heads in the tool box because you left all the Phillips heads somewhere on the boat or the dock or in the car or they fell in the water. If there is a Phillips head in the tool box it will be at the very bottom under at least a dozen flat head screw drivers and when you finally dig it out it will be the wrong size.
Conversely, if you need a flathead you will find only Phillips heads.

Re: Murphy's Marine Laws
The Law of Project Timelines:
If you want to know how long a project will take, ask the most experienced old handyou can find.
Then half that estimate, and gou up one unit of measuremenr.
So if the old hand says one hour - it will take half a day
If the estimate was 4 days - it will take 2 weeks
etc., etc.

Asking for a friend....

You know the freezer will act up. The day you put $300 worth of steaks into it, and go off shore.

Actually, it's spot on.
I estimated 9 months and we're just rolling up to 4 years now and "almost done"

Only four years? I wish. Took me seven and I've still got a long list. At least I'm in the water and floating for a change.
