GRAVITY SUCK

You might think you know what gravity is (I did), but you're wrong (I was)
Just about nobody knows that nobody knows what gravity is. The exception is physicists: They know that nobody knows what gravity is, because they know that they don't know what gravity is.
We can say gravitation is one of the four fundamental forces, but it's such an outlier that the word "force" becomes nearly meaningless. The strong nuclear force (which keeps atomic nuclei intact) is about 100 times stronger than the electromagnetic force (which creates the light spectrum), which in turn is up to 10,000 times stronger than the weak nuclear force (which facilitates the subatomic interactions responsible for radioactive decay).
Three forces, all within six orders of magnitude of one another. Then comes gravitation. It's about a million billion billion billion times weaker then the weak nuclear.
Not that cosmologists particularly care. In science, knowing what you don't know is a good start. In this case, it has led scientists to believe that finding a quantum solution to gravity is a key - perhaps the key - to understanding the universe on the most fundamental level.

Come on now, all sailors know what gravity is

its the stuff that relocates critical parts to the bottom of the bilge and steals tools and dumps them into the sea.

Actually, most of the time it's the Cat!

Actually, according to one CF’er, gravity is just a myth.
He’d tell us that it's just ‘the establishment’ keeping us down.

The consensus around gravity is false! Not settled science!

If you put something down, be sure to keep an eye on it; Natural Influences Which Cannot Be Measured might still cause it to float away.

Re: GRAVITY SUCK

Like mass and the speed of light, gravity is relative.

The older you get, the stronger its effect on you.

when mountainbiking in my younger days there used to be "gravity storms" once in a while...

But,but,but.... 97% of scientists and all of the world's scientific institutions agree. How can such a consensus be false?

Newton's Law's of Motion were used to get folks to the moon and back.

And we know that they are wrong.

Re: GRAVITY SUCK

A bit like marital partners - hard to live with and difficult to live without.

There is a theory by some nut who had a habit of dropping balls from a sub standard construction in Italy that it acts the same on all substances. If that's so how come the dropped bread slice always lands butter side down?

For given meanings of "law" and "wrong".

I prefer to think of Newton's Laws [no grocer's apostrophe ] as a simplification that is sufficient for most tasks.
