I too am a Van de Stadt owner. Custom Steel Ketch. The "Seal" , I believe is considered a good "Blue water" cruiser with fine lines. There are a number of Van de Stadt owners in the Forum.
I shall attempt to post a picture here, but if unsuccessful go to my profile
Best Regards
Alan

Van de Stadt
I have a Victory 40 type from the mid '70's. I say type because she was built in S. Africa from those plans, but was called a Pheonix 38 in the docs. I think someone may have "borrowed" the plans. The Victory was produced mostly in England and Holland.

Nice looking boats.
CWS, what's the story on that project? Any pics? The hull looks good so far.

Bob, it's an honour to be chatting with you, your website on Restless is truly
inspirational.
I've only bought this hull recently, it was an abandoned project. It's a Seal 38 (39' LOA), a stretched version of the original Seal 36. It was built by a boatyard here in England for the original owner.
There's nothing down below as yet, just the bare hull and deck. I've only had this boat for 2 weeks so I'm still going through the plans.
The original layout design looks very similar to Trintella 38, this is a little old fashioned for my taste and I'm tempted to go for a more modern look (I like the style of Catalina 375 for example).
Any tips or ideas on the project would be much appreciated. I only have the mast, boom and marine ply so far, no other materials or parts so my options are somewhat open.
Best regards, Chris

Well, I posted this 6 yrs ago. We sailed many miles for a number of years and sold her in 2008. She looked after us in 65kn breezes and when I ran her aground. She was bulletproof, fast and safe.
Now we have a Peterson 46. St Anna was still in Brisbane last I saw. Wonderful boat.

Hi Guys,
I've just come across this post. Sorry for the advert but I'm practically giving away a Van de Stadt Wibo - the forum link is here and the site shown is just for the piccies of the boat.
I am so desperate to get rid of her that I would swap her for something.

Re: Van de Stadt Seal
Hi there,
I know that this is a very old thread but I was hoping to get in touch with you regarding St Anna. She is indeed still in Brisbane. I am actually interested in going to view her soon and was wondering if you could give me some more information and history on her as the past owner?? I'd love to hear from you.
Matt

Re: Van de Stadt Seal
Hi! I am a proud owner of a Van de Stadt 36 Seal, ketch cutter, round hull.
I read there is another one in Ilhabela, we were there cruising from Argentina, last summer( south hemisphere).
It is a pitty we did not notice there was a sistership so close!
We were interviwed by Paulo Baptista from the magazine "Velejar" one year ago.
There is an article in the June issue.
Any case, I sent a big hug to " Gaścho" Ruben Souza. I will return to Brazil, amazing and lovely country.
Best regards to all sailors and specially to Van de stadt owners.

Let's revive the thread
Just bought a 1988 unit, originally built in New Zealand. I have to say it's quite a beam at 3.54m but very comfy inside and strong as hell with that steel hull
Now a bit a work required, not major but upkeep... Also want to ditch that Volvo MD2040, not going right now and too expensive to fix. Been told could repower with Perkins as gearbox fitting should match?
Also need to check all electronics as previous owner had lightning strike apparently resulting in Autopilot being fried and a few other items
Cheers
W
