using a public boat landing to park car while anchored out

While waiting on a slip to open up in my area, I wondered if anyone here has tried to anchor near a public boat landing to park their car. Situation is I have a job on land and have not been able to find a live aboard slip in the my area. Just thinking of ways to make this work and also if anyone else has tried this.

I have not done so.

There can be a huge amount of traffic at boat ramps. At all hours. With lots of noise. With lots of wakes.

I would not want to have to be anywhere near a public boat ramp for very long.

Later,
Dan

Usually you can’t leave your car there indefinitely.

The first step to finding a live aboard set up like this is to find free overnight parking. Or maybe even paid overnight parking. From there, then figure out the boat stuff.

You would leave your dinghy at a boat ramp?

That depends entirely on your location: some parks here would not even notice an overnighted car; others would slap a ticket on the window. Is there a side road with legal street parking? Is there a grocery store or mall parking lot nearby? Is there a homeowner you could befriend and be allowed to park in his driveway?
I'm guessing that's all going to vary immensely by where you are.
In Ft. Myers, people in the anchorage who were using the municipal marina for dinghy dockage also parked cars in the lot with no issue, but the harbormaster was cool. Might be different down in Naples or Marco Island...

Re: using a public boat landing to park car while anchored out

In an area where truck probably wont be noticed also I work third shift so truck will be at work from 10 PM to 6 AM. Rest of the time it should blend in with rest of the bass boat rigs. I prefer not to leave the dinghy at the landing but throwing it in back of truck or trailer will be a pain. But again it only will be there overnight tied off (or rather chained) off to the side somewhere.
I plan on anchoring far enough away where traffic should not be an issue. Negative on nearby empty parking lots or side streets. There are however an abundance of private homes with docks even closer to work which would be ideal but I am just trying to put together in my head how
I might convince somebody to agree to this arrangement after they open their front door to a complete stranger.

I tie my dinghy up at boat ramps and go into town regularly. What is the big deal?

This is probably the more challenging part. Maybe if you had a kayak and could put it on your car when there.

Most boat launches don't allow you to leave a boat tied up longer than needed to go get the truck, so you can pull the boat out.

All depends on the boat ramp and local neighborhood.

Some boat ramps have signs the prohibit overnight parking. Some don't.

Some neighborhoods I would leave my dinghy tied up overnight. Some I wouldn't leave it tied up for 15 minutes in broad daylight.

It might be worth talking to some local marinas. It's possible that one may be willing to work out a deal for you to leave your dinghy there during the days and your car there overnight. I have a family friend who lives aboard on a mooring in CT and has this arrangement with a nearby marina (he does winter on a dock at that marina).

This is what I was thinking. Usually there are anchorages within a short dinghy trip of an actual marina. Surely there's one willing to negotiate daytime dinghy dockage and nighttime car parking.

Ok, great idea. Will call around. Thank you for the suggestion. Only I need just the opposite. Night time dinghy dockage and daytime parking. This is Charleston, SC BTW ( In case any local dock masters or waterfront property owners happen to be reading this

Did you try Safe Harbor Boatyard up the Wando river? They have small dockage and may let you stay there for a bit. It is just a long haul up the river north of Charleston.
