New to this forum and looking for some advise on finding a liveaboard that will accomadate my 6'10" husband. We know our selection will be limited and we are open to either a mono or multihaul sailboat for blue water cruising. Any advise on manufactures that are known for good headroom?

Cooper 416, 47 Sailmaster, 50 Choey lee 47 Mapleleaf. lots of Stan Huntingford. But even in these I bet it will be close.

I'm 6'5" and need to realize that most won't have standing room. It is just as much fun trying to find one with enough bed length.

Good luck, and if you come across something that is less than 42' (preferably in the 30's) let me know.

Harstad 31 aft cabin ketch. Six were made. In the salon, over 7' headroom. He would still need to curl a bit in the bunks. Designed and built in the later 70's By William Crealock and Harstad Trawler co.

These were made to trailer (not ship, but trailer) with 20 hp diesel engines.

Pretty rare sailboat.

I have drawn the plans to convert my CM 32 to a Harstad design, but I fear the greater freeboard would lessen my fun sailing her.

As I am in the cockpit 99% of the time, I will leave what I have alone, however, I would jump at a chance to acquire one.

I am 6' 3" and the galley/setee area has an extra 3" headroom, fine for me but still short for your husband. Sorry. We now sail a Seafarer 38.

I'm 6'5" too and don't expect much with headroom. When I was looking for a boat, I figured down below I would be sitting or laying down anyway. If I'm standing, it's to move from one area to another as needed. Otherwise, if I need to stand, there's always up on deck.

Grampian 34. 7-feet of headroom in the galley, main salon and head. At least 6 1/2 in the forward and aft cabin (perhaps more ... I'm 5'7" so I've never measured).

Here is a partially done catamaran list I did about a year ago. I was all set to buy a Lavezzi until I hit my head three times in 5 minutes when in the hulls. All of the newer FP's, even the shorter ones, seem to have had the headroom issue addressed. But in older FP boats its a problem.

But berth length is equally important. I think you will find something, but options will be limited. Just remember that as you get older enforced bending is less convenient and less desirable.
