Re: Southern california slip costs
Maybe $18/foot per month. Plus electricity and liveaboard fees (hundred bucks or so a month). It's not cheap living on a boat around these parts.

Re: Southern california slip costs
A 40 ft slip in Long Beach Shoreline, max 44' 11"... 800+ mo, liveaboard(190 liveaboard fee)
You will pay quite a bit more in Newport plus not much wind.

Put it in perspective.
How much would a bedsit cost you in SoCal per month? For my 2 cents, I'd say $400pm is a nice figure for having a roof over your head, electricity supplied and security.
Someone mentioned that my local marina was excessive as it charged £305 per meter per year but for an 8 meter sailboat, that's only about £200 a month. A bedsit here would cost between £250 and £350 per month!
Not to mention that if you wanted to go on vacation, you can just release the lines and off you go! In a bedsit you would need flights, hotel etc

I had to search for the meaning of "bedsit". Here, we would refer to that as an efficiency apartment. Location makes a big difference throughout the US and even can differ greatly within a county. In North Florida we are paying $8.30/foot/month which comes to about half the cost of an efficiency with a 8 meter boat. We're also subject to a "liveaboard fee" called a "full time use fee" that bings the cost of our 41' boat up to $500/month and still less than an efficiency rental. Those areas with higher or lower slip rates have a comparable change in the cost of the bedsit.

Re: Southern california slip costs
I left Newport Beach when $28 was the new "normal". Of course head to NYC if you REALLY enjoy sand in your lube @ $100 a foot.
But the best deal in CA, and possibly anywhere??
Downtown San Diego and The Laurel Street Med Moorings (under 35') $147.57

Re: Southern california slip costs
Paying $14.40 for my 29' overall boat in Oceanside, CA. No additional charges for electricity, etc but it's not a liveaboard slip. Additional cost for live aboard.

Re: Southern california slip costs
Dana Point is preparing to redo the whole marina. They are planning to eliminate all small slips under 31 feet. Those smaller boats will be in “dry stack”. A lot of the existing buildings along the edge of the Marina will be replaced with larger - taller new buildings

Ugh. Hate to hear that. Is this another nail in the coffin of middle class sailing?
