Irwinsailor

There is a summer market here on the South Shore of Nova Scotia for a Charter business. It would take time to set up and marketing would have to be done properly but there is no one charting these waters the way they should be chartered.

I have long wanted to buy a boat big enough to charter for 1 week periods out of Nova Scotia's South Shore and then the Caribbean in the winter months. I have never had the capital to do it.

There can be a very good buck to be made. But it would take a year or two to get it up and running.

If your interested in this market for the summer months and you want more information, feel free to contact me.

Cheers

Todd

I'd second that request.

Wow! if you dont want to read it. Move on, read something else. Let people ask their questions. It doesn't matter if someone else asked the same question 5 years ago or not.

We are here for questions and answers, a collective to help grow and educate the sailing community.

It's still a relevant question especially given the current economic downturn. There may be a lot of boat owners and liveaboards who want to get some extra revenue. I've talked to a Yacht charter company in Florida and in the Abaco's this week and they are in DESPERATE need of four cabin catamarans. Captained charters wouldn't have much appeal to me unless the captain had some unique knowledge or skill.

something to consider; you'd want insurance that covers chartering. that will cost a bit and if you don't pick up several charters quickly that will eat your profits

Canadian based charters usually have to be Canadian captained

Re: What about using your boat as a charter?

My only experience with rentals was in the housing market, I managed to loose three. I might have prevailed, had the tenants been and preformed in accordance with the contract. I haven't been with the sailing tribe long enough to say if I can judge their charactor any better.
