Re: When You Have too Much Money - Well This is for You

Ha ha, there i was trying to be a proper snob and i left out a word...
"Here in Oz they're called "CUBs" which an acronym for "cashed-up Bogans".
A bogan is kind of like a suburban redneck."
There should be an "is" in there somewhere.

Our books have gotten 5 star reviews on Amazon. Several readers have written "I never thought I would go on a circumnavigation, but when I read these books, I was right there in the cockpit with Vinni and Carsten"

On a beautiful Labor Day weekend anchored in New Harbor Block Island, RI.
This quiet harbor turn on its ear when this 46 foot Skater dual jet turbine cat race boat came through the harbor. Notice the driver is wearing hearing protection, but not his guest.
It was just deafening for everyone in the harbor until the guy spooled it down after about 20 minutes.
Gaack! We must have been neighbors. We spent Saturday night at Block anchored in about 35 ft on relatively short scope with less than 100 feet to nearby boats. Folks were stumbling around drunk on shore by mid-afternoon. Not a pretty scene or restful night. We were out first thing Sunday for a quiet anchorage at Dutch Harbor. Much better.

Re: When You Have too Much Money - Well This is for You

Got a fellow who comes through the harbor once in a while. Must spend the rest of the time working to pay for the fuel. He obeys the 5 MPH speed limit so the noise from his gutterle exhaust is extended further than it needs to be. Hmmm I was thinking if everyone in the harbor had a parabolic metal dish perhaps refocusing the sound energy back to cockpit of such boats might be a fun way to achieve some audible payback.
Wonder if those who buy these boats hold onto them very long? Zipping from gas dock to gas dock must get old after awhile.

I bet he is on a cigar boat forum complaining about all those pesky sailboats in the harbor.

Re: When You Have too Much Money - Well This is for You

We were anchored in the lovely harbor of Jewell Island in Casco Bay last month, along with maybe 12 other boats, a mix of sail and power. Everyone is quietly enjoying the awesome beauty of a wild island in Maine, having a cocktail maybe and fixing dinner. . . . when a group of campers (come off of two power boats and a sailboat rafted up nearby) decides how fun it would be to start lighting M80s and tossing them off the cliff toward the harbor. (!) What unspeakable jackasses. We hauled anchor and moved ourselves to nearby Cliff Island.

I see these guys every weekend in the summer. You think it's crazy where you are, try on an inland lake! They can't go for more than 5 minutes without having to turn significantly.

She gets that much bashing because most of our boats are that much slower?
