Re: What is Your Favorite Quote?

“There is a pleasure in the pathless woods, There is a rapture on the lonely shore, There is society, where none intrudes, By the deep sea, and music in its roar: I love not man the less, but Nature more"

Byron

Into The Wild.

Powerful film.

Don't know who coined that one.

The chance of mistakes are about equal to the number of crew squared.

Ignoranti quem portum petat nullus suus ventus est.

(If one does not know to which port one is sailing, no wind is favorable.)

Will Turner: This is either madness or brilliance.
Capt jack Sparrow: It's remarkable how often those two traits coincide.

A wooden boat is like a stripper girlfriend. They look amazing but they're an awful lot of trouble.

My favorite is one I saw in someone's signature, I think here on CF.
Remember that no matter where you go on Earth you are never more than seven miles from land. It may be straight down, but it's never more than 7 miles.

Re: What is Your Favorite Quote?

I have several----the sailing ones are:

I would rather be on the boat with a drink on the rocks than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

Boating is a recreation, sailing is a sport, that is why it is in the Olympics and power boating is not (from my first sailing instructor many years ago)

As for other quotes, I have to say Winston Churchill has some of my favorites:

A woman came up to Churchill at a party and exclaimed "Sir, you are disgusting, you are drunk", to which he responded: "That is true but in the morning I will be sober and you will still be ugly".

Another woman remarked to Churchill that if he were her husband she would give him poison to which he replied "Madame, if I were your husband, I would drink it".

At times like this, I wish I would have listened to my mother.

Why? What did she say?

I don't know, I wasn't listening!
