Edson Pedestal Questions

I have 2 questions concerning my Edson pedestal -

1. What is the purpose of the two circled screws? On my pedestal, they are finger tight.

2. I can move the wheel in and out a good inch. Is this normal? If not how do I fix it?

Re: Edson Pedestal Questions

There are complete manuals at www.edsonmarine.com. Good luck.

Re: Edson Pedestal Questions

On our old pedestal there were no screws there, but the holes are for lubrication of the bearings at both ends of the shaft. Maybe someone (even Edson?) added screws to help keep out dirt?

For the in/out, there should be a couple of C-Rings on the shaft. IIRC one outside the pedestal behind the wheel and one inside on the aft (wheel side) of the pedestal. Not too uncommon for the one on the outside to fall apart, sometimes the one on the inside.

Re: Edson Pedestal Questions

Take the screws out and have a look are they the locating lugs . If they are worn then yes but mine is 30 years old and doesn't have this problem.
