Stuck in ft Lauderdale with engine problems

dON'T TOW, RAFT DINK TIGHT FORE AND AFT ADMIDSHIPS (OOps caps),
put gas tank on deck, start engine, get on boat to steer.
Stopping is done from dink, but take it slow to stop.
I've done hundreds of miles with dink rafted.

Im in lake Sylvia, fort Lauderdale. I just need to motor to Biscayne bay where im stay for a bit to get some other boat work done. I rigged up my dinghy so if the engine dies I can jump in it immediately to tow it. If the engine doesn't work im not sure what to do next. I did everything I can think of. I just need to go 30miles.

A couple thoughts:
-Is it possible the vent line to your fuel tank is clogged? (slowly dies off under power) The little bees in Florida can clog up your fuel vent fitting.
-What does "white smoke out of mixing elbow" mean? You mean it's not coming out the back of the boat like your black smoke?
-Does your temperature gauge work? Are you sure? it sounds like you are overheating, or have something on the prop like mentioned above.
-Do you have a dingy motor? Is it worth buying an adjustable outboard bracket and installing it and using the outboard to get to your "boat work" destination?

Does your engine have its own fuel filter? Not that I'd ever admit to it, but I- uh, a friend had a similar situation and went thru a few Racors before remembering to check the engine's filter. Duh...

What ive done:
1. Replaced fuel line that was damaged
2. Replaced both fuel filters
3. Tightened and rigged mixing elbow as good as I can get it.
4. Tightened all clamps
5. Checked fuel. No water, looks good
6. Checked oil, looks good.

What model is the motor? Makes a big difference on what might be the solution.

When my gm10 did this exact hting it was a cracked steel fuel line from secondary filter to pump. Got new one from Dealer few blocks south of
Lester's Diner on 84th.

One hour by a diesel mechanic could at least point out your problem, money well spent.

Just to note, if the mixing elbow is clogged it also won't be pushing water out the back like it should. Are you SURE it's moving water and not over heating and dying (and hence why it won't start back up right away) ?

When our 2GM20F's elbow finally clogged it just suddenly stopped pushing water (went unnoticed by me) until the temp alarm went off (NOT unnoticed by me). We shut it down and not wanting to risk any damage by running hot we got towed in.

I replaced the elbow myself (actually I replaced the elbow, union, and exhaust header) -- pretty simple once you have the right parts on hand.

Have you checked to make sure there is not cloggage (word?) at the fuel tank outlet?

Should you decide to push your boat to Miami, beware of the current at Dania Beach Blvd bridge. Others ok.
