Question about transmission oil lines

I've pulled my transmission (zf25) to replace the drive plate and while it's out I've decided to take the heat exchanger to get looked at as it's looking extremely shabby.

The lines connecting the heat exchanger/gearbox seem to be crimped on with no hose clamps so my question is

- can I just cut off the hose and then reinstall using hose clamps?
- can I use fuel hose for this or do I need coolant hose (the internet is not v helpful on this point)

Thanks all

Re: Question about transmission oil lines

Rather than cut the hose, if it were me.....I'd just cut those yellow crimp-on clamps off.....you may have to saw a slit in them and pry them off or use a sharp knife.....being careful off course, not to damage the hose...then remove the hose.

Then use small s/s hose clamps to re-attach them. Make sure your s/s hose clamps are proper s/s one's.

Re: Question about transmission oil lines

The fittings you have are Parker “push-lok” fittings or SpeedAire fittings and are designed to be used without hose clamps. The fittings have barbs and if you use clamps on them it typically causes the barb to cut into/ thru the hose.

The best thing to do is just remove the hoses, take them to a hydraulic shop and have the shop replace the hose, reusing the existing fitting. It’s just low pressure hydraulic hose, as your transmission is using ATF oil and the oil cooler pressure is less than 75 psi.

The transmission is really heavy so I'd prefer not to have to move it anywhere! Thanks for the ID of the fittings

Why are you not just unscrewing the fittings? Two wrenches.

Won't that twist the hose? Unless I am misunderstanding and the center of the fitting rotates? I'll take a look

OK.... if you don’t want to replace the hoses, just disconnect them from the cooler, as Cheechako says....two wrenches. They won’t twist.

One wrench on the first hex fitting by the yellow band, the second wrench adjacent to the first. They are flare fittings and won’t twist the hose.....

PRETTY SURE IT COMES LOOSE HERE. (PIC)
then you can rotate the hose while unscrewing the fitting on the transmission end.
