Bronze fitting for oil cooler to transmission oil cooler

Hey guys. First I want to thank everyone on here, I have gotten so much help from the community and I greatly appreciate it!

As I'm going through my exhaust modification, I noticed that the fittings coming from the engine oil cooler(Yanmar 4jh2-ute) to the tranny oil cooler, looks to be brass, not bronze. The threading on one of the fitting is definitely turning pink.

I decided well now is no better time to replace them, especially since the oil cooler side has 1/4" thread while to tranny cooler is a 1" pipe. The previous owner set it up so it's got a 5/8" heater hose to a coupling that jumps to 1" that then connects to the oil cooler.

My inital thought was get a bronze hose barb for a 1/2" hose with 1/4" male thread, replace the cooler(Seakamp) with their 1/2" hose model.

Seems like fisheries supply as well as mcmaster both lack a bronze fitting like this. They also lack a hex bushing with the male side being 1/4" and female being 1/2".

Not really sure if I need bronze now that I'm thinking about it? Maybe iron? I feel like bronze is the best route but I'm out of ideas on how to go from a male 1/4" thread to a 1/2" pipe

I guess maybe I should investigate if the oil cooler for the tranny is worth the trouble?

Here's a shot of how the pipe was setup. Obviously not the best imoClick image for larger version

Ditch the whole mess. Screw a McMaster Carr 4464K273 1 X 1/4 SS bushing directly into the housing, screw a MC 5361K32 1/4 SS hose barb into that, and connect your 1/4 hose direct. Standard galvanized fittings will work as well, and may be available locally.

If the cooler is not NPT, MC has a wide selection of alternate thread styles.

Ahhh perfect! You pointed me in the right direction(though the fitting # were not perfect, they lead me down the right path).

I ended up finding SS 1/4 NPT Male/Male fitting to connect into the engine oil cooler, a female 1/4 x 1 male bushing(# you provided) and a 1" female NPT to 1" hose barb fitting that will connect directly to the hose that will be hose clamped onto the tranny oil cooler(oil cooler does not have any fittings for the cooling loop, rather hose is hooked directly and hose clamped on).

Much appreciated jimbunyard. I was focused on the idea of using bronze rather than SS. Went with 316 variant of the for the small price more.
