Mechanic needed

Diesel mechanic needed. 42’ sailboat Ford Lehman 80 hp engine. In the Tampa area. The motor died on the trip bringing our new sailboat home. We live in N. Alabama and the boat is in Tampa. Had one mechanic look at it, said it was too big of a job for him. Finding a mechanic long distance is proving difficult. Any referral would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Mechanic needed

I wish you luck finding a mechanic. Maybe Tampa area has more options but I've been trying to find a diesel mechanic in Jacksonville/St Augustine area for a couple of years and struck out.

Found one that would do an oil change which I can do easily. Found one that was too incompetent to change a valve cover gasket and a couple that would sell me a new engine but wouldn't fix the existing engine.

Re: Mechanic needed

Can you get to Carrabelle? MS Dockside Marina is owned by a diesel mechanic who can rebuild engines. If you can jump the ICW gap from Tarpon Springs to Carrabelle, give Eric a call at (850) 697-3337 and see if he can take it on.

Re: Mechanic needed

There is a first rate marine diesel shop in Gulfport Fl, while I don't know if they will work on your Lehman as they are the Volvo Penta dealer, I would call them and ask for a referral. I've had Bluewater do work for me in the past and would recommend them without hesitation. I would trust a referral from them.
