Re: Help identifying a Perkins Starter

i have found that the original starter with my engine is best one ever. the replacement doesnot fit right. the old one, written off in usa was easily rebuilt in less than a day in puerto vallarta and works just fine n dandy.not even rusty anymore after rebuild. imagine that.
so now i have 2 starters, important in cruising, one that fits without shims and one that fits using special mounting brackets and shims. i prefer the shim free version. burlier and more reliable.
both delco.

Discount Starter and Alternator <info@discountstarterandalternator.com>

I just ordered two from this company for my Perkins 4-108 on a 1979 39 foot Catalina. They have great prices far cheaper than anywhere else with free shipping. I will let you know how it goes.

Help identifying a Perkins Starter

I bought my starter from DFJ auto. They are UK based but ship internationally. www.dfjauto.com they helped me out by even advising when the housing was cracked.

Re: Help identifying a Perkins Starter

Amazon and eBay have 4108 starters for about $100. There are many starters that fit the 4108 and other engines but look slightly different. A gear reduction starter usually will turn the engine over faster. Helpful in cold weather.
The number in a casting is there for quality control in the factory that made the casting. It has nothing to do with the final starter number.
