Re: Head removal of Perkins 4.108

My spare part valves does not have some rubber rings as my original valves do. Is it a problem?

Re: Head removal of Perkins 4.108

I have an idea about the tool. But as first let me check about the guides protrusion. The manual says 20.3 to 20.7 mm. But my engines varues from 20.3 to 22.3. So,I would presume that is not so inportant to be acurate at 100 procent. Corect?

Re: Head removal of Perkins 4.108

I love this stuff about rebuilding the 4108... I had to repair a pump one time this required a small ss cylinder to fit snuggly into the housing... after special ordering this piece from finnings (somewhere in the mid west) it arrived in a couple of weeks) I tried to install... no way it would fit.... finally an old timer said put in in a freezer overnight... done.. next morning it went directly from freezer to pump... bingo... sometimes all it takes is some old guy whose worked on diesels for years to save you hours of frustration... they are a sweet engine good luck with her... make sure she gets enough air

Re: Head removal of Perkins 4.108

There is a way to remove 4.108 perkins dry liners without a press, there are videos on youtube, it involves starting a long skinny screwdriver between the block and the liner and slowly tap it down, one person used a heat torch inside the liner while tapping it down which resulted in one thin strip coming off the liner and then just pull out the liner with pliers, he chipped at it without heat and the liner just breaks into pieces till you get to the bottom is another way, the liners are brittle, another person was able to get the screwdriver all the way down the side with no heat, dont overheat the block, can stop let it cool off and come back, no pressing involved, showed no damge to block wall, do this method at your own risk, I am doing it now.

Re: Head removal of Perkins 4.108

Someone want to tell me what is hydraulic lock of the piston, impossible, you cant get water into the cylinder liner unless you blow the head gasket, never understood why people keep saying that

Re: Head removal of Perkins 4.108

I dont think so, I rebuild diesels. There is no way for water to enter the liner, the head gasket stops that, unless its blown but thats something different altogether, sorry but I am going to have to stop this myth
