Closed Cooling System Install

Hello All:
I have a 1991 Carver 330 Aft Cabin (that I really love) w/twin Volvo Penta engines (620 hrs) w/open cooling system (freshwater boat). I'd like to move her to a saltwater environment (California) after converting to a closed cooling system (kit).

Can I do this without causing harm to the engines? I've heard that closing up engines of this age may cause problems ... something about scale build-up (that I don't understand).

Any/all advice appreciated.

Thank you very much
- Gary
