Best Engine to Repower the Lehman 120?

Am possibly looking for the best motor to repower / replace the Ford Lehman 120.
Extra complication is boat is in Barra de Navidad, Mexico, (about 130 mi's south of Puerto Vallarta. I'm told there are ways to ship from the USA but never easy.)

Anyone who has sage advise, maybe been through this themselves, please shout it out. Many Thanks!!

Re: Best Engine to Repower the Lehman 120?

Buy a genuine Cummins remanned 6BT 210. It will usuall fit in the space of the Lehman.

Jacket water aftercooled so maintenance and risk issues are minimized. Full Cummins warantee. A bullet proof engine. Will run forever if cruised at 1,800 rpm or less.

For all I know they may be assembled in Mexico so check with a Cummins dealer there.

J.Deere 4045T/ZF63?

I replaced the marinised Ford slant 6 that came with Boracay with a John Deere 4045D with ZF63 gearbox. The engine was a bit bulkier, and required a 4" exhaust and rather different engine mounts, but otherwise fitted OK.

The engine has not missed a beat since it went in.

The turbocharged version (4045T) could be the one you want. The ZF63 was overkill, but there were a few reports of gearbox failures at the time so I went a bit extra. Their tech support or ZF should be able to advise.

The John Deere technical support was excellent. You may be able to get someone in the states to set it up for you.

Their dealer locator had :-
PROD.IND.Y AUTOMOTRICES,SACV
CALZ. GONZALEZ GALLO # 2500
COLONIA EL ROSARIO
44890 GUADALAJARA JALISCO
Mexico
(33) 3639-0769
as your closest marine dealer.
