thanks
I started experimenting with various techniques of making up trim mouldings for the doors , windows and furniture out of some nice red Sapele/mahogany.
whilst looking for some timber I was fortunate to have scored from the local wood yard all their sapele off-cuts at about a 1/4 of the price of buying planks and is quite handy as most of the bits are already trimmed and planed on at least one side.
first i laminated strips in a press mould to make up the main door arch moulding which came out well.
then progressed to using templates(taken from the plywood door cut outs) for the radiused corners on the table router with a bearing guided trim router bit.
so far so good, nice and warm in the workshop with the wood burner going.
I have now moved onto the doors and frame that cover the steering compartment which if far more complex, needing 6 different radii for each set of corner mouldings
fortunately all the cabin doors have the same radius corners so one set of templates should suffice

Wait! You're not using plastic laminated pressboard with sharp corners everywhere? everyone says that is what all new boat buyers look for...

The trimmings are wonderful, atoll.
I still want a monkey door with a window so I can watch the sky.

The square corners on the {wood burner} looks like it would hurt a bit of you happen to bump in them..

Re: Modernizing a Prout Elite 37ft
so far so good!
the trim fits...after a fashion, but I am getting better at making it on the router table
the wood burner on the boat has a guard around it so quite safe, and small children who touch it when lit, out of curiosity, do so,but only once

Re: Modernizing a Prout Elite 37ft
2 door frame trims done,2 more to go!
finally finished making up the moldings for the 2 fwd doors out of a beautiful piece of reclaimed sapele mahogany and installed on the cat, with enough left to do the aft cabin doors.
sold my 2 selva saildrives as well, so went out and bought a 1/2 inch router 1500watt,which allows me to use a 2inch template trimmer router bit making life a lot easier for doing the corners on the router table.
made up some interesting jigs for the router for rebating the moldings as well, found some very usefull videos on utube of various techniques......who says an old dog can't learn new tricks
