it's been a rainy, stormy few weeks since I last posted,we had waves up to 65 ft and a breezy 60-80 knots in the western approaches, which is my back door, here in Falmouth, so not much
work on the cat.
instead I decided it was high time that I needed a bigger table saw and router table in the work shop to be able to make up trim mouldings and edge banding for the doors and other
interior facings.
so with the aid of a few youtube videos ,my small 13x20' saw table now has a 2ft by 3ft table with an adjustable fence, and is still light enough to be easily moved when not in use in my tiny workshop.
the router table clamps to the work bench,so that is easily moved as well
as well as that I mounted a jigsaw under a bit of board to be used as a wannabee bandsaw to cut out curved trim, though there is room for improvement by fitting upper guides/bearings.
the great news is after 2 years of searching i found and bought an extended leg ,steerable sillette sonic outdrive unit,in great condition, that has had very little use (>100hrs.)
it cost a boat dollar, but a new one is £6K,and has the same upper
gearbox as the one i fitted on an extention, with but with a short leg to get the
hull down to cornwall from London by sea.
it also has the same couplings as the existing unit, so fitting it will be easy with the minimum amount of modification to the
engine bearers.
the very old ,shorter sterndrive i will probably strip for spares (yoke, universal joint, prop drive shaft and prop hub),since the
parts are the same and gives me a choice of 3 propellors of varying
pitch as well.
i also found a pair of brand new custom sinks for the galley and a new 8ft section of sail track for the inner
jib traveller at a fraction of the new
price whilst picking up the outdrive in Plymouth which has some good second hand yacht
chandlery shops.
