Re: US quality boats

Whether at sea in calm or storm or snugged down in a peaceful anchorage surrounded by beautiful vistas, I can get enough of that whilst I'm on deck.
I'm with L.F. Herreshoff, when I go below I generally do so to obtain either respite or refuge from the outside.
Not a fan of the "Frank Lloyd Wright " style in a boat, i.e., bringing the outside into a stark/severe/sterile interior.

Pretty sure they did. They built Pierson etc.

Wiki says otherwise Johnstone entered into Contract with TPI owned by Everrt Pierson to build and market the J boats in the US. But was never owned by TPi

Re: US quality boats

What’s your budget OP?
When do you intended to purchase?
Why do you keep insulting boats not to your taste over and over again?
Do you think all of us should 100% agree with you to stop cause that’s like 8 times you try to start a brand argument in a room of polite sailor.
Go buy a boat. Show us your trade in let’s change topics

I see how you read that but it was the other way around, I’m pretty sure they were contract builders

The OP has of course forgotten Discovery ( now gone ) Malo, contest , Sunbeam , Regina , Garcia , to name even more “ quality “ brands. ( and that’s to ignore the very small European semi custom builders arguably producing the finest quality money can buy )

The US is not and has never been a large sailing boat marketplace , it’s largely a powerboat marketplace and even that sector is mainly runabouts ( which the US dominates )

Hence there is no comparable industry to rival , the yacht brands mentioned

“ decoration “ matters as a modern Oyster buyer is going to run a mile from a Pacific Seacraft , even though in its basic design it’s a fine boat. .
We don't find modern Oysters that fast, we leave the 66 behind us pretty quickly with our fifty year old teak laden North American built boat.

Well there’s a shock. I thought all Oysters walked on water like
I read about the 495 laughed when I read base price. Gorgeous boat, ridiculous price.
The OP just wants a good argument.
Ever met an active buyer repeating himself like Rainman.

The point is that while there remains well over a dozen high end builders in business in Europe excluding the very high end custom stuff and the mass production companies, there is no equivalent choice in the US excluding companies not in business. This I think is the question the OP was asking. It’s not about the relative merits of one brand against another. It’s about choice.

It's a problem isn't it. Bit like the author of posts 7 and 8. Why does he or she keep banging on about large powerboats on a cruising forum

Looks like a fake profile. No personal information. No photos. Generic profile name. Odd location. Same clickbait, speculative threads started. No skin in the game.

This is a widespread problem on social media. Some of them are just undisclosed marketing specialists. Others have some axe to grind. They do manage to start threads with topics that generate posts/activity.

Too bad the moderators can't just delete these fake members.

Lot of folks with privacy concerns don't put much if any info in their profiles. I have more in mine than I should have put there.

You can cruise on powerboats, same as you can cruise on sailboats.

The number of posts and activity is exactly what benefits the income generated with the forum, so it is welcomed.

Re: US quality boats

Man that went south. Please feel free to show where I insulted some brand of boat? I actually sail a production boat, a pretty old one actually.

Thank you Go boating now, that was the point.
