Re: Offer Accepted...Gulp

I'm sure we'll eventually end up moving to Port A. Since the sailing is significantly better and it's much easier to actually get out in the gulf.

We decided to start in Kemah because we need to do some work to the boat, add AC and a few little things we want to do. Plus we have friends and family and work in the Houston area so for now it's easier. All other things being equal we'd definitely have gone for Port A or Rockport over Kemah.

So until we finish a few projects, we'll be at Waterford harbor in clearlake.

Good choice. Easy to get work done there. Less bottom growth in the brackish water. If you need any canvas work, a sailmaker, or rigger, let me know (for referrals).

Have a good trip getting the boat home.

When you get to Waterford, please let me know. We keep our IP40 at Watergate. We can compare notes.

I bought mine in November 2013. She was in Tampa. It was a fun adventure getting her to Texas.

We're already there, or at least she's there. We're back in Austin but should be down not this coming weekend but the next (March 14th).

PM me if you want to get together sometime.

Just to let you know, there MIGHT be a slip or 2 available in the City Marina in Port A. You will need to put a deposit down, and put your name on the list. Don't wait, as once spring gets here, the waiting list will move into 2016.

These abreviations are usually left not understood on international forums, but I'm close enough to be curious. Is Port A. Port Aransas or Port Arthur? I don't sail the Texas coast. Port Arthur seems to be all oil refineries and maybe Port Aransas is a prettier place. ...or maybe there's another Port A. - let us know.

Sorry - I should have spelled it out. The OP had said in an earlier post that they were probably going to put the boat in Port Aransas, TX. As well, my signature says "Port Aransas". In Texas, "Port A" is well known as short for "Port Aransas".

I should have guessed that. I've never been to Port Aransas, but Port Arthur didn't seem like a sailing mecca! Thanks!

Well, down here in Tasmania Port Arthur is sorta like Hotel California: folks sailed in but never sailed out!

It was the big convict prison here in the 1830's... and still a nice anchorage to visit !

Re: Offer Accepted...Gulp

Thanks for the heads-up Bstreep, I'm sure we'll eventually end up in Port Aransas...or at least I hope so. But for now we're going to take advantage of the boatyards in the Houston area. We're going to need AC soon if we're going to be spending weekends aboard in the marina this summer. For now the bay will be fine, but eventually I'm looking forward to some more time in the gulf.

I can make a recommendation for you, for A/C: Greg Heck, 832.392.8769. He also does refrigeration - it is tough to find a good tech.

Thanks Bill, I'll definitely give him a call. Hard to imagine needing AC at the moment but in another month or so it will no longer be an option. Much appreciated!

Thanks Weyalan,

It's been fun to do, nice to know someone's actually seen it. It was a little easier to do for the trip home since it included some great locations and several passages. Been a bit lazy since getting back since it's really just been more everyday maintenance and shorter day sails. Just figured not as many folks would find that kind of stuff interesting.

Then again, I enjoy reading that kind of stuff, so I'll do better at keeping up with it.

Thanks again,
EB
