Nope we didn't want him to and he didn't want to be involved in that part either. We went to the SAMs website and hit up all the local surveyors and talked with several before making a decision. So we'll see how it goes.
Completely agree with the comments about not falling in love with an individual boat before the survey. My comments where regarding the IP40 which we did fall in love with. Now just trying to find the right one...at the right price

If we end up closing on it, we'll definitely do that.

You might look at the Freeport City Marina, 979-236-1221, it is new with floating piers, restrooms and showers. 30 minutes to the Gulf, 20 to the ICW. No inshore sailing, just offshore and coastal. I am paying about $300/month for a 50'-0 slip, based on a 6 month stay; electricity extra. From Austin, route 36 off I-10 would avoid Houston traffic. Downside - Freeport is not the tourist mecca that Kemah is.

Re: Offer Accepted...Gulp
We did end up closing and we did just get back from the delivery trip to Abaco, where we had to leave her...till the holidays.
I'm just about to write-up the trip in a separate thread, so stay tuned.
Thanks,
EB

Re: Offer Accepted...Gulp
Sounds like me .. we bought our first sailboat last month, it was a dream come true / what have I done? experience.
Only had the boat out of the slip a few times so far, but I'm doing a few upgrades, and really enjoying getting to know my boat. My sons are really excited, and we're making lots of plans for the spring.
Enjoy the experience .. you can't take it with you !

Re: Offer Accepted...Gulp
Howdy Andy,
I actually have a long winded post about it here and have writtin a bit about it on our pathetic little blog (below).
It was a great trip and currently the boat is sitting in Abaco at Marsh Harbour. My wife and I will be heading back for a couple weeks at Christmas to enjoy a little cruising around the islands. Then in early Jan we'll be heading around Florida and across the gulf to Texas, so we can finally get her home and spend more quality time together.

In the rockport area, if you decide to go there, go to Key Allegro Marina. They have very nice facilities, and it's protected. It's in little bay which feed into a nice sailing ground, and it's not too terribly far from the Gulf.
We just relocated to south Padre island from there.

Re: Offer Accepted...Gulp
I just got back from Key Allegro marina. I looked at a couple of Hallberg Rassy's. Right across from the marina there is a condo complex (it had the Monsun for sale). That guy told me he was paying $185. Seems that a guy owns a couple of condo's, has no boat, and just rents out cheaply.
Would really have to consider Rockport over Kemah. I know Galveston in the winter is a bear getting in and out, but that is a different post.
Best of Luck with yer boat.
