Most Circumnavigations
Someone asked me the other day what production monohull sailboat has made the most circumnavigations, I had to respond that I didn't know, I thought it might be the Tayana 37, I'm not sure, did a search here but couldn't find it, did a google search, couldn't find it there either, does anyone know, checked the Westsail Owners Association, it shows 11 Westsail 32's, Sundowner apparently did 3 times around, I'm curious about it

Re: Most Circumnavigations
Probably NOT S&S 34, but a bloody good track record just the same.
Jon Sanders did a double non-stop in one lots of years ago.
Then he did a triple non-stop in a what....??? Cavalier 37 ??

Re: Most Circumnavigations
I remember some study that showed that Valiant 40's had the lead, but I'm not sure where I saw it. It may have been the Latitude 38 circumnavigator database.

Re: Most Circumnavigations
If you look at global stats ( non existent as they are ) rather than just ex US I think you would find Benys and Jennys up there together with the HRs

I think the Cav 37 was Kaye Cottee. Now THAT was a good book she wrote too. You have to respect a lady who rolls a boat in the Southern Ocean and is most concerned with the dinner that went down the back of the stove.
Parry Endeavour, Mr Sander's triple circumnavigation boat, appears to be a one-off designed by a Perth naval architect called Phil Curran. I have touched the boat in question and vowed never to wash my hand now.

Yeah, not talking just US boats, any production boats, people sometimes judge wither or not a boat is seaworthy or long voyage capable, on the circumnavigations it's made, I think that's what the guy that asked was getting at,

Re: Most Circumnavigations
How many circumnavigations have been done by people who never talked about it? Just went out and quietly did it, and then resumed their lives (or maybe just continued their lives, as, by that time, it had become a part of their lives). Probably a bunch. At the very least, a fair percentage of the total.
Hence, I don't think there is any way to come up with a meaningful answer to this question. Any answer is going to be nothing more than a complete guess. Pick any reasonable model, say that is the one, and you are about as likely to be right as to be wrong.

Re: Most Circumnavigations
I have met several, 6-8, circumnavigatos that were of the personality, that it was done with no fanfare. One was on his third. He was from Rhodesia, (Remember that country). That was all in the days of no blogs, tweets, etc. they certainly were not on record anywhere.

Re: Most Circumnavigations
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody tweets about it, does it make a sound?

I'm with the you will never figure it out, but believe you to be correct. Reason? Just look at how many of them there are.
Be interesting to me to know how often people complete a circumnavigation, but didn't set out to circumnavigate, but it just worked out that way?

Re: Most Circumnavigations
ok so it mentions NOT hartjoy, jeff, baba 40 twice. last time was completed last year. ecuador was his return location.
first time he wrote a book one can find on amazon.. he is an excellent writer.. funny as hell and interesting reading.
an interesting point--he is oldest to circumnavigate nonstop around all 5 great capes, unassisted.

How do you do a triple non-stop in anything under about 40'? You'd have trouble carrying enough spares, & stores.
As to the original question, Valiant 40 came to mind. But as stated, there really won't be records for a lot of this.

Re: Most Circumnavigations
Not sure but it't probably an Oyster. I recall from reading the Oyster magazine a year ago that over 10% of the boats manufactured by the company have made a circumnavigation, so that would bring the total to around 150 boats. Then add to that the 30 or so that will do the company sponsored "Round the World" rally which comes up every two to three years, and you get a rather substantial number of circumnavigators.
Contrary to popular belief on this forum, most Oyster owners use their boats a lot.
