Are you saying that model is not seaworthy, could not be upfitted for offshore passages? Not talking by modern standards of course, but comparably to say Islanders / Columbias, Bristols, Cape Dory, Westerly etc??

Not at all. It's just a very small boat. Very narrow beam, shallow draft, small sail area. It would be slow but probably perfectly safe.

I'm a fan of small boats, fwiw and have a boat of similar size but a bit more beam.

I think most people would need bigger tanks, more space and more storage; but smaller boats have been sailed around the world.

Re: Boats Less Than $30K Recent Noteworthy Finds

1979 Norsea 27 in Ladysmith, British Columbia, Vancouver Island, $32K Canadian (about $25K US).

https://www.kijiji.ca/v-sailboat/nan...sea/1602356787

Lyle Hess design and probably a cult boat in its day. Good reputation. A lot of exterior teak trim.

Bow platform, anchor windlass, bronze opening ports, exterior well cared for, if the pictures are recent, newish canvas and what looks like a full enclosure. Composting toilet.

Interior is very dirty and worn; upholstery is tired. Tiller steering. They mention it's the center cockpit version (with aft cabin).

No mention of the engine, beyond that they're changed the oil regularly, I wonder if it's original? If it is, it's overpriced by $10K.

Wow my baby

Skipper Jer, is that way overpriced?

I fantasize finding one in the $15K ballpark...

It blows my mind how much they ask for those little boats. Kinda like Danas and Flickas. Nice little boats though.

On this Norsea 27; my SO tells me that many, if not most of them, were professionally built FG hulls and owner-finished interiors.

That might explain why the interior does not look very good.

If this is an owner-finished boat interior, if the engine hasn't been replaced in the last 30 years and if the sails are worn out, I'd say $20K Canadian would be a generous offer.

Not that all owner-finished interiors are bad though, take a look at this little jewel-box of a boat,

Apparently BC is full of excellent boat wrights!

Whoa! That is a gorgeous boat. 😲
My only thought is, who has the time to keep all of that brightwork in such good condition?

Another big old tired leaky boat. Someone's done some work on it, replacing the bowsprit, I think they may have removed the teak deck (not very good photos) and painted the cabin outside.

If you want to live aboard right there, this might be OK. As a boat it's not worth buying, imo.

Someone with staff

I couldn't afford the varnish bills either! Sigh.

Yes...exactly and that's one of the cheaper ones. I've seen a $45k asking price on others. After all, they are just fiberglass and standard marine hardware. I did meet someone who sailed one to Hawaii and loved it.

Good Lord! $320,000! It is an absolutely beautiful boat though! I'd be afraid to take it out of the shed, or let my kids walk on it! In bare feet!
