24 hour monohull distance record broken
Jim Clark and crew have just broken the 24 hour distance record sailing his new boat Comanche making an incredible 618.01 miles in 24 hours. Average speed in relatively flat water was 26 knots with sustainable speeds of 35 knots.

And yet there are french blokes doing better than that all on their own (current record for solo is 677nm as I write I think)

It's more like 2/3
The current record is 908.2nm by Banque Populaire V (and single-handed is 682.85 by Banque Populaire VII).

From what I can gather it looks like the fastest multihull made around 900 miles which is hardly a bit better than half the distance..much closer to 1/3

OK but I was referring to monohull's, surely that was clear. Anyways single handing at those speeds is really something.
