Cruising permit in USA.

Hi guys I have a permit to cruise in the USA water but it was given to me last fall, since I am still in US water for a year can I get my my permit extended for another year or I have to exit US water to get a new one?

I am Canadian and the ship is in southwest harbor Maine, would not be a big deal since grand manan island is like 80 nautical miles from here. I would call bar harbor custom but I don't have a phone.
