Re: Watch out for Patricia
Just converted that 880 MilliBar pressure to inches of mercury = 25.99074965..."
roughly 5000 feet of altimeter altitude.
That is a deep surface low.

Re: Watch out for Patricia
Holy macrel, gusts to 220kn? That is over 400km/h.
(What has been posted earlier.)
Good luck, so glad I am far away.
That dwarf's Marylin and Louis which I "enjoyed" 1996.
I feel for all of you.

Re: Watch out for Patricia
I follow the world news very closely. I am curious why Patricia came onto the scene with less that 24 hours advance notice.

Re: Watch out for Patricia
That is a storm to avoid!
I can't imagine much would survive or endure sustained winds over 200 MPH!
It would be like having an F5 tornado over your bat or house or community for possibly hours rather than just seconds.
Really unimaginable!
Here is a pretty good article with graphics.
With 200-MPH Winds, Hurricane Patricia Closes In On Mexico : The Two-Way : NPR

A hurricane hits Mexico and 2 million Mexicans died. Many
countries sent over support. France sent over people to help rebuild the
cities. Spain sent over doctors to attend to the wounded. All different
countries were sending help. Not to be outdone, America sent over 2
million replacement Mexicans.

FYI: The US National Hurricane Center in Miami began issuing Advisories on (what became Patricia) on Tuesday, 20 Oct, at 1500UTC, some of us picked up hints of it from satellite views on Sunday.
Mexican (and other) outlets probably picked it up soon after.
Hurricane PATRICIA Advisory Archive
If you're depending on domestic USA 'news' sources, you're missing a lot; the quality has diminished greatly in the last decade or two.
If you depend on those sources that inhabit an "alternate universe" entirely, you're better off with nothing at all (particularly that one run by that Aussie and his Saudi and Chinese partners) .

Re: Watch out for Patricia
I've been watching it for a while and was surprised there wasn't a thread on it sooner. I figured there was some other forum that more PV cruisers hung out on.
We head south from San Diego in a few days, so I've been watching the forecast on windyty. There are some wild things forecasted. Last night they were showing 2 seperate spinning storms smacking in to PV by hooking around the point and coming right in from the bay. I was going to link to them but the forecast has already changed.
I'm wondering if we should be loading aid on the boat to take there.

I hope nobody is foolish enough to remain on a boat in the path of this storm. Pray for those in the path.
