Want Mattress advice please.

I put a fire escape type of grid under mine to keep moisture from building up. I have a queen size foam mattress that I got at the local discount store, it is 10 to 12 inches thick but only cost $300, I would have preferred 6 inches thick

Go generic. Memory foam mattresses are in a way low tech - just laminated foam. This technology has made obsolete generations of inter-spring mattresses overnight. I'm yet to see any one manufacturer having an advantage in the market.

You can purchase one and then trim it to fit your boat. The biggest problem is that they come compressed into a 20" or so diameter roll, which is convenient for getting it into the boat, but once unrolled it is not coming out again in one piece.

Memory foam mattresses sleep warm/hot. Latex sleeps cooler but inner spring is still the best

I got a 12” memory foam/latex mattress off amazon. I made up the odd wedge shape at the head with a couple of cut latex section.

It hasn't been hot to sleep on

I think they are hot but then I'm hot. I purchased a cotton mattress pad which acts as a thermal break and it is way more comfortable (cooler) now.

I have a bloom mattress (mattress in a box). Easy to get in the boat and easy to cut to the shape you need.

Regardless of mattress type it’s critical to ventilate the bottom side of the mattress to prevent mold and infestation

Just bought a Zinus Ultima 6” on Amazon. Added an additional 2” topper and cut to size. Zinus 6” queen was ~$130. Will be hard to find a 6” that isn’t on the firm side of things.

I like select comfort. Yes, an air bed on a boat. They only come in standard sizes but will self-fit a space that is close to standard. You need 120 or 240V to change your inflation using the (included) pump, but you will seldom or never want to change the pressure. Where weight is a consideration this mattress is extremely light. It won’t absorb a nickel’s worth of water should your hatch leak. And I find it extremely comfortable.

The main reason for my costco membership... the novaform foam mattress. It's on the thick side (14" i think), but it's the best night's sleep I've ever had. On my boat, in my house, in my RV, it's awesome. And since it's just foam, you can cut it to fit. Good luck.

+1 for all of this experienced based comment. Additionally latex is very heavy if you need to move for access under the bed.
We have an inner spring currently and had one on our last boat.

The older sleep number mattresses had individual foam side rails with a foam top sheet, but the new models have them bonded into one piece. This makes it much more difficult to alter or modify the shape. You used to be able to cut the foam foot rail to fit an then trim the sides to match. The top sheet was easy to cut to size with scissors, the only hard part was getting the fabric mattress cover to match the bed shape.: that need to be taken to a professional for alterations. Now it’s a much bigger project.
