Re: New Caledonia and Vanuatu

In our experience, and by comparing to others in the same time period, the severity of the quarantine inspection in Noumea varies dramatically with the specific agent that comes to your boat. Ranges from draconian to cursory. No known way to predict the outcome, so ones planning revolves around the willingness to be raped of everything if you are unlucky! It is hard to believe in the usefulness of the process in protecting New Cal against the outside world... sorta like the Aussie termite inspection! Depending on Noonsite for this sort of info is risky, for they are often well out of date.

We've spent a lot of time in both NC and Vanuatu, and enjoy them both. Which you will like best depends on your priorities.

Cheers,

Jim

Yeah, I didn't know about this. But the quarantine guy couldn't be bothered coming out to the boat (I was anchored) so he asked me to go out the boat and bring them back. I gave him one potatoe and an onion.

I agree about Tanna, but the walk there is well worth it and it will allow you to arrive with enough time to walk around the back of the volcano. Which most people don't see.

I'm based in Vila but as the admiral informed me on the phone tonight I'm more often away than at home
The Waterfront Bar & Grill is where the yachties tend to congregate and most anybody at the "table of knowledge" at the bar will be able to point you in my direction.
Ask for kiwi Pete or Pete the boat fixer.
