anti-Facebook rule?
It happened to me again this weekend. I took some non-sailor friends out for a daysail, and they've posted snapshots with my name (not "Bash") tagged to the shots. So now everyone else who connects to my facebook page wants me to take them sailing next weekend.
Sheesh.
I'm seriously considering having a placard made up that says, "What happens on this vessel stays on this vessel, and anyone publishing photos of this vessel's crew on social networking sites will not be welcome aboard again."
Has anyone found effective ways to discourage this behavior?

How about you just ask them not to...

All smart phones need to stay in their car or be locked below in a drawer for "safety" reasons.

Re: anti-Facebook rule?
I do have an account on FB because of some other thing I want that Ned's one to have a FB account.
I just don't allow any friends. And have the photo tagging position off so no one can tag a photo of my face.
It's all big brother stuff... Just imagine if the Police set up a register where anyone could tag your face. It's hideous that your "friends" could think its acceptable!

Re: anti-Facebook rule?
Just say yes to everyone, and be sure your excursion is on a day of 25-30 knot winds. Go out the Golden Gate with the wind against the tide. They'll never ask again.

Re: anti-Facebook rule?
Take it as a positive. You have been dragooned into helping to save sailing. SA forums have multiple doom threads on how the sport of sailing is dying. The more new people you can introduce and hook on sailing helps preserve sailing.

Re: anti-Facebook rule?
- Theres no effective way to disable other people from uploading photos to their own accounts.
- You can of course limit who you invite in as "friends".
- I believe there is a way to limit people from tagging you in their photos. Not sure.
Check your security and notification settings in FB.
Else its behavior issue, that cannot be resolved easily...
Perhaps you want to make people sign something before sailing with you?

Change your security settings. If you dont want to take strangers sailing... dont respond to their post!

Close your facebook account. I don't have one and certainly don't miss it. bEsides who really wants to give Mark Zuckerman the rights to anything, including pictures, you post? Do you trust him? Would you buy a used car from him?

Re: anti-Facebook rule?
Not sure what you use FB for. I use Linkedin for professional networking. To me FB is nothing more than a bragging right site.

Re: anti-Facebook rule?
Heck Bash ... Facebook has become a real pain in the butt. Like many I don't use it much but have it to keep contact with my kids overseas. I am on the verge of bombing it but don't have an alternative that keeps me in touch with my kids as effectively. Unfortunately, even blocking these people from your FB won't prevent them from posting your name. They can still mention your name and post pics on their timeline. There should be a simple but effective law against posting pics on FB without written permission from the person/people in the pic but sadly there isn't.
