Mainsail foot - Outhaul?

Does a mainsail with the foot embedded in the boom render the Outhaul useless for sail trim?

No. But you will need a powerful tackle or winch to stretch it out. Some depends on the sail design.

Re: Mainsail foot - Outhaul?

Not unless the foot of the sail is attached to fixed points on the boom which is pretty rare. As long as the foot slides in a track of some kind and the outhaul can adjust the tension of the foot then it will work to adjust the shape of the sail.
