I would as well, but this one is a blatant scam to get your C/C and ID details to raid your accounts.
I they can insert a code to void the script in the email when copied and pasted what else can they embed to invade ones system when one opens the email..

I experienced the similar while trying to sell a small cat boat. The guy sent me authentic looking postal money order. I was to cash and send the change. He would come get the boat. I took the certificates to the US postal inspector in Cleveland. She said totally bogus and explained the scam. The guy would get the money, I would be charged for the fraud and still have the boat. Always deal in cash, PayPal or in person exchange, cash only. Never respond to a solicitation you did not research and initiate yourself.

I had one were he said he couldn't wait to see my 40 foot sailboat in his garage

I also like to play with the scammers. I take their cashier's check and deposit it. Then I wait. They scream every day for me to send the overage but I have countless excuses. And of course, in a week or two, the bank notifies me that the check was bogus. Imagine that!

Re: I got scammed out of $1462 for S&H of a boat I am selling!

Thanks for being honest enough to post your experience. We all learn here from the experience of others.

It is never pleasant to be taken advantage of whether by a scammer or by a friend. My sympathies.

I was selling a guitar on Craigslist and received a bank check for more than the selling amount. The buyer said that he was going to send a courier over to pick up the guitar and would I please also give him the amount of the overage.

I called the bank that the check was from to see if it was legitimate. Obviously it was not, despite being a very good forgery. This scam would have me giving him the guitar and the extra money. At some point, the bank would realize that the check was bogus and take the money back out of my account, leaving me out the guitar and the entire value of the check plus the amount of cash that I turned over to the courier.

I called the police to see if they wanted to pose as me when the courier showed up. They declined saying that these financial fraud crimes are not of interest to them. They prefer to spend their time on meth and murders.

Enlightening.

Just make sure there are not going to be any service fees for the bad check before trying this at home.

or hiding with a speed gun and writing tickets for a few miles over the speed limit. You know, the really respectable stuff.

If you are into podcasts, check out AARP's "The Perfect Scam", featuring a variety of scams. It was like getting a healthy skepticism booster shot.

Actually, the takeaway is ONLY use Paypal since they provide buyer protection, and never just send money using Moneygram or a money order or wiring money as the OP did. The problem was that he did not use Paypal. The "seller" only sent a fake Paypal message to him.

You get tons of scams like this any time you post something for sale on Craigslist. People saying they'll send you a check for more than the cost if you'll reimburse them with a money order. People see dollar signs in front of their eyes and go for it.

If it looks too good to be true. It is.

Actually PayPal gives you an extra layer of security. It's not PayPal that's the problem here ..........

In buying online, I usually have the choice of PP or credit card.
I always choose PP, rather than giving another entity my card details.

But thank you so much for posting this. Usually people refuse to admit they might have been scammed. Even to the point of convincing themselves. It's human nature. And it's why confidence games work.

As others have said, getting the word out will almost certainly help someone else avoid the b****** that did this. Thanks, again!

Anytime a stranger wants you to wire money, you're being scammed. Never wire money to people you dont know.

Unless it’s a Nigerian prince who wants you to help him import $10M, of which you’ll get a cut.
