Free 1970 Albin Vega - Baltimore

Free, no photo:

https://baltimore.craigslist.org/boa...869738141.html
---

Here we have a 1970 Albin Vega 26. It includes a full compliment of sails, headsail furler, powered anchor capstan, a diesel-fueled British Beta auxiliary (less than 100 hours) and a clean title. The interior needs work, the sails and running rigging need to be cleaned, batteries and fuel separator need to be replaced and the entire boat needs a complete clean and repaint.

Or your could just bring a power washer and sail her as she is...

THE BOAT IS FREE. If you ask me how much, I will ignore you.

Google this boat. A more solid production FRP boat was not build previous nor since. Several of this make and model have circumnavigated the globe. A 26' production boat rounding the horn of Africa or braving Tierra del Fuego is very ambitions and the Vega has done both. She won't win any races or beauty contests but if you want a solidly built coastal cruiser or a boat to head for the leewards for the Winter, this is it.

I owned and lived solo on this boat ten years ago, sold her, then 5 years ago my daughter and I inherited her back and I had hopes of a partial refit. Sadly my situation has changed and I'm downgrading to a trailer sailor (looking for a Catalina 22 or the like). Her last voyage was DC to Baltimore in 2014 and she has been slipped ever since.

Needs batteries, fuel separator, halyard repair and the stuffing box repacked and a good clean and paint. Some interior panels need to be replaced. Breaks my heart to let her go but I just haven't the time and a boat like this needs to be in the wind. I am ordering a new title next week, the last one was lost in a move and has not been found. When the title arrives, the boat must GO.

She goes as is, where is (Bodkin Creek) COMPLETELY FREE OF CHARGE. FREE. IT IS SLIPPED AT A PRIVATE HOME. IT CANNOT STAY THERE. YOU MUST MOVE THE BOAT, THERE IS NO RENTAL SLIP, THERE IS NO TRAILER, THERE IS NO RAMP, THE NEAREST MARINA IS A QUARTER MILE DOWN CREEK.

You must tow her out at high tide. After that whatever happens is your business.

Re: FREE, or close to free!

"Thank you kindly" for your response. I truly wish I were closer to you as I would love to have her and I have a beautiful little Skipper 20' on a great trailer that you probably would have been interested in were it not for the distance between us. Its a long ways from Port Aransas Tx. to Maryland. Im sure you will have no problem getting rid of her and I wish you all the luck. May you have a Blessed day sir, GOD Bless!

Contest 24 $7k, trailer, loa per listing 30’
https://chicago.craigslist.org/chc/b...880991936.html

Looks like it checks some boxes for a lot of the people on the thread; appears trailerable, cruisable, proven blue water cruiser, price is a good start for a refit.

In MN, middle of the country for someone who wants it. And delivery available? Now we’re talking...

Apparently others felt the same way! Gone now. But it shows what can turn up now and then. There's a Cal 29 there too that may be a good deal too!

A lot depends on that almost 40 year old Volvo Engine though (if you plan to sail with an engine)

$2,000 for the initial sale can triple or quadruple real fast.

Also the sails looked ancient.

And that's just two things

That being said Cape Dory is really a step up in quality compared to the boats typically found here.

No argument there.

The thing is that there is a beautiful Cape Dory 30K across from me. He finally cranked up the engine yesterday and it was smoking quite a bit. I didn't see the initial startup

For Cape Dory 28 at $2,000 it's amazing the boat even had a motor or sails. I think it's pretty much a given that any boat on this thread is a project. In fact, I've pretty much come to the conclusion that any boat at any price is a project and new ones might be the worst.

Re: FREE, or close to free!

Yes to me solid bones for $2K means more money available for the upfitting. Nothing wrong if it's sound with spending ten times the purchase price, even more if that gets you safe passage-making with all known-good replacements and upgrades.

The time and labor PITA factors depends on the buyer, for some not a problem, for others better to keep looking and plonk down the $30K to get out there fast.

I paid $2,000 for my boat a 1974 Bristol 27. It had a diesel, almost new jib, depth, GPS, autopilot, VHF, and 5 anchors including two main anchors with chain and rode

It had sat on the hard 5 years unattended.

The diesel failed in about 2 weeks after I did a bottom job and put it in the water. The second old diesel also failed. I tried to get off cheap at $1,300 but should have either bought an almost new diesel or gone the outboard route then.

Here's some before and after photos. After 8 years and $10,000. I sailed it the whole time though

Notice that Cape Dory 30K in the background of one of the newer pictures of my boat's exterior
