Best Whiskey

What is the best whiskey for having aboard your sailing yacht along with the proper mixers for cockpit sundowners?

Feel free to specify whether your choice is for blazer wearing events, average boat scum get togethers, boat scum scum gatherings, and the brown paper bag drinkers anchored under the bridge.

Re: Best Whiskey

IMO, if you plan to add mixers or ice, anything will do.

If you want something nice, I think it comes down to personal taste and budget.

Ardbeg Corryvreckan. No mixers needed or required apart from perhaps a drop or two of water.

Amen to that. Tried Maker's Mark Bourbon once, base on my son's recommendation. Found it tasted no better that Jim Beam Bourbon, and at half the price.

I prefer a good Vanilla Vodka or Scotch on the rocks in summer, straight in winter.

Re: Best Whiskey

Lots of options... I prefer bourbons such as Basil Hayden or Buffalo Trace. Reasonably priced. Not a big straight scoth fan especially of anything smoky. Bulleit Rye or Bourbon is very good. Any of the above can be had in an Old Fashioned or on rocks.

I agree with Rumrace- Rum is my real passion.

Re: Best Whiskey

Bulliet Bourbon and blood orange will make me sing for dinner. It’s a sunset drink for sure.
Lucky I was just a passenger on a hydrofoil in Aus Heading for Magnetic Island. We had a Mango Pineapple vodka fizz with a absinthe depth charge. I had 2 they tasted so good. Not recommended
So ya I stick to Rum Eldorado 15yr is my go to. I have dock vermin slither down with empty glasses.
A dirt cheap Canadian whiskey is from Quebec called Spice Box. It’s not a typical way too much maple silliness. It’s a true spice blend.
In Oakville Ontario named for making ships masts, is a Mead brewery dating back to 1600’s. Changed names owners locations but was originally started by pirates wanted by the crown.
Oakville Mead still comes in clay jugs. Still made with local honey.
The Pirates descendants went on to make Sleemans Beer which should not be available for export cause we want it all.
Other evening Beers Rickers Red.

Re: Best Whiskey

If you're going to mix? Pretty much the cheapest you can get. Neat or on the rocks, I'm very partial to Penderyn, but it's rather hard to find in the US.

Mostly I keep a selection of beer and hard seltzers on hand for casual drinking, impromptu dock gatherings, etc.
