Hmmm, that's a good thought. I do have a few repairs to make, but nothing critical. Unfortunately, we have a significant winter cover that needs to be disassembled first. The yard staff won't do that, I'm sure (and I wouldn't want them to).

Re: Canadian boating - Great Lakes and Atlantic region

I thought I'd check in from the North Channel. All marinas (Little Current, Killarney, Gore, Spanish, NCYC, etc) still closed and classified as non-essential until "further notice". There's a glimmer of hope and it is still early but I don't see the gates opening before June.
That being said it is still annoying a lot of us Northerners who live in low density areas, use smaller marinas/launches and have lower CV-19 numbers.
Case in point, the Algoma District, population 114,000, has 13 CV-19 cases, all at home in bed. We all just want to be social distancing on the water during our two months of summer. North of the French River is another world and province.
Full disclosure, I have a 27' Ericson on a trailer (in MY yard) that can and will launch off the beaten track if need be. Girlfriend's private beach will also launch her fleet of 13', 16' and 20' footers. All is not lost.

Any news from the North Channel Yacht Club near Spragge? I bought my previous boat there, and spent a few seasons sailing out of that club.

At last...

Ontario Marinas can open to prepare for the season, we can work on our boats but cannot be open to the public.
Not sure what "open to the public" means.
Not sure if Yacht Clubs fit in this category, I hope so, but they are never open to the public....

NEWS RELEASE
Marinas may also begin preparations for the recreational boating season by servicing boats and other watercraft and placing boats in the water, but not open to the public. Boats and watercraft must be secured to a dock in the marina until public access is allowed.

Dam good idea, why didn't I think of that

At the moment the wording does not mention yacht clubs nor owners accessing their boats:

It seems to be an oversight that clubs, and owners working on their own boats were apparently not also considered, though the COVID-19 risks would be comparable. It would certainly be a problem if every club member showed up at the same time to do boat work. Clubs might require a schedule for who can work and when. They would also need some procedures for keeping common areas like washrooms disinfected. Taking the temperatures of arriving members?

I know that Boating Ontario lobbied the government about a week ago, on behalf of their dealer and marina members. Dunno who's making the case for clubs... seems like a missed opportunity.

Just got a note from our club that we are not marinas, we are listed under recreational facilities.
Marinas and Golf clubs are not? Go figure.

Re: Canadian boating - Great Lakes and Atlantic region

Good news indeed. How about Quebec marinas/YCs? Atlantic provinces? Any news?

I know our YC in Newfoundland is opening up so members can work on their boats to prepare them for the season. They haven't said specifically about launching yet, but it's still to early anyway.

Ontario premier reveals specific businesses that can open May 4
Marinas can “get ready” to re-open, but not actually open, just yet.

Re: Canadian boating - Great Lakes and Atlantic region

Woo friggin Hoo!!! My boat is scheduled for launch June 10!!!! Yippee!!! I wish I could get in to work on her— but then again, if we just pay marina staff to do what needs to be done, that solves that problem AND supports the economy!!!
