Group purchase of 8D 300ah Lithium batteries

20' shipping container from China to Miami runs just under $3000. Could ship easily 100 8D 300ah lithium ion batteries in one container.

Batteries run about $850/each plus $50 in customs/duties. So with shipping, I think we could buy them for $1000 each, vs $3000+ currently priced in the US and Europe.

But I don't need 100 of them. I need 8....

https://www.gsl-energy.com is the company I found, but there are many others too.

Not sure this is really going to happen, but who knows. Figured I would put it out to the universe and see what comes back.

Re: Group purchase of 8D 300ah Lithium batteries

Hello...

I would be interested in a bulk buy of bare LiFePo cells, but not in a packaged 12v solution. Thinking about say 12 pcs of 180/200Ah cells.

Re: Group purchase of 8D 300ah Lithium batteries

Getting agreement on the battery to buy is the hard part.

Rolls and Dyno are the only makers of an 8D battery suitable for deep cycling afaik.

Why do you want that form factor?

If you mean just for Starter service no need to go to that much trouble for good quality.

And certainly not worth all that trouble to save a little money.

What's your recourse if you discover you got a load of factory seconds, QA rejects?

That is a tiny retail order.

Bulk buy would be at least a pallet. Really a shame the LFP supply chain is so thin stateside.

Re: Group purchase of 8D 300ah Lithium batteries

I'm also ready to purchase some lithium cells, but, as BDBcat said, not prepackaged at 12v.

My main issue with prepackaged lithium, is the fact that you're getting "mystery cells", likely supplied by the lowest bidder.

Are you aware that the specs say that they're made with 26650 cells?

https://www.gsl-energy.com/lithium-i...-rv-golf-carts

Just so you know, these aren't prismatic cells.

I'm presently planning to purchase, eight, 400AH Winston cells from these guys:

https://www.ev-power.eu/Winston-40Ah...-2V-400Ah.html

I'm happy with the pricing, but have not, yet, gotten a quote for shipping.

Though I'm shipping to Canada, I'd join a group buy, if the difference in shipping, or cell price, was notable.

I'll be ordering in March, if anyone wants to combine orders, I'd be interested in hearing from you.

There are cheaper cells on Alibaba, but some are off-brands, and some are from questionable sellers. I don't have any experience with Lithium through Alibaba. Ev-power does seem to have a good reputation though.

Cheers.
Paul, from PEI.

If you didn't read there FAQ...Ev-power.eu don't ship cells outside Europe. You have to organize your own shipping.

Re: Group purchase of 8D 300ah Lithium batteries

Well, damn. Thanks for that. I didn't read their FAQ.

Assuming they'll let me organize the shipping, they seem to be a reliable supplier, and I'd still like to buy through them. They certainly keep lots of stock, and seem to sell quite a bit.

I've been watching their inventory of 100ah, 200ah, and 400ah batteries go up and down. They seem to receive shipments every 4-6 months or so.

Cheers, and thanks again.
Paul.

Re: Group purchase of 8D 300ah Lithium batteries

Interesting.

In a large, highlighted, yellow square, they say they ship worldwide by TNT.

Then, in a paragraph next to this yellow square, they say if it's batteries, then, not so much.

They say they'll discount for orders above $5000, if asked.

Anyone up for making a large order to Florida?

My apologies to the OP, I didn't mean to highjack this thread.

Back to the original subject matter then...

BDBcat, I'm sending you a PM.

Cheers.
Paul.

Re: Group purchase of 8D 300ah Lithium batteries

I have an 8D lead acid house battery on my boat. $250 from Car Quest.

I get it that lithium is better as it will take a little more of a charge.
But is that worth a few thousand dollars more?

I really don't know that much about batteries.

Re: Group purchase of 8D 300ah Lithium batteries

Don’t buy Chinese’s manufactured Lithium batteries –

I’m installing lithium Batteries, over 6 months I have been studying the processes of manufacture from China. To save your future grief, may I suggest you forget buying Chinese lithium batteries as the cells are small sized and soldered together if one fails the battery is not repairable - I suggest you research cell suppliers in the US then find out who is using them to build lithium batteries there.

Here in Australia, there is only one company that makes lithium batteries and BMS to order for your needs, they use the larger US made cells bolted together and not soldered like the ones made in China if one fails the battery can’t be repaired. Whereas with the larger bolted cells, the failed cell, battery can be serviced and repaired. As an example is there link in Australia for the above advice of your reference.

Re: Group purchase of 8D 300ah Lithium batteries

No need to go all the way to LFP.

Just a lead bank which batteries are actually designed for and good at deep cycling.

Even Deka / Duracell GCs from Sam's Club are better, will last lots longer, and cheaper per AH as well.

Re: Group purchase of 8D 300ah Lithium batteries

Lithium batteries from China? Not a chance. The value of my boat compared to the cost of the batteries, even if they cost three times that here in the US, isn’t something I take a chance on. I have enough in my head while I’m onboard. I don’t need to lay awake in my berth or on night watch 500 miles off shore and worry about a battery catching fire. Not worth my wife’s or my safety.

BTW, Anyone know if your insurance allows them or not?

Re: Group purchase of 8D 300ah Lithium batteries

Anybody have any idea which LiFePo4 batteries are NOT made in China? I don't know of any, but would be happy to be enlightened.

Batteries, assembled in the USA, with Chinese cells, don't count.

Does A123 make LiFePo4 batteries? And if they do, are the actually manufactured in the USA?

Thanks.
Cheers.

Re: Group purchase of 8D 300ah Lithium batteries

I don't believe "Made in China" is synonymous with "junk". Krikey, they sent a Chinese made space ship to the "dark side" of the moon.

To the best of my knowledge: The vast majority of lithium batteries, and just about everything else, is made in China.

I grant you, it's the wild west there; in regards to scams, fakes, and intellectual property theft. But many of the fakes, are copies of originals, that were themselves, Chinese made products.

Let's face it. China, is a manufacturing, and financial, powerhouse. And they're not far behind in science either.

Cheers.
