Could’nt get a straight answer from anyone whether they were legal in Oz, So ended up handing them in the the local cop shop. Comment from the lady who gave me the receipt “the boys will have great fun shooting these off out the back!”

Excellent flare gun, My Boat came with one, Customs took it off me when I arrived back in OZ, and then gave it back, They didnt know if it was legal or not,

Marine Police in Victoria said to ring up my local cops and hand it in there,
Make sure I took it in, in a box,
They are Illegal in OZ unless you have a licence for it,
Its a Pistol, so very hard to get a pistol licence for it,
Ten years ago now, So I dont know if the laws have changed or not,

Maybe these guys should take up croquet as a pastime. Sure don't seem to take to boating very well...

Probably hasn't travelled far, I'd be looking below the surface this time around - hope I'm wrong though.

No luck so far. Wind speed and direction have him being blown out to sea which is not good.

Note that he also ran aground on Saturday! Really, the owner sounds like a Darwin Award winner this time, rather than a runner-up a few weeks ago.

Really, some people should never own boats, I know at least one person like this and he has not learnt one lesson from his mistakes, including sinking a boat. We had one in NSW a few years ago who was towed into harbours/rivers three times in one trip due to major problems with their yacht, set back out each time without fixing the problems (multiple problems, engine, sails, rigging and more each time).

No update on the South Australian Police news feed. Very ominous, though happily i was completely wrong last time I felt they were in trouble.

Granted this guy sounds like he could afford to take a more serious view of boating in general, but there was something oddly endearing about the pair of them. I hope he’s ok.

Wreckage consistent with the Margrel found on Coorong Beach.

Poor guy.

What ever weather they get in the Coorong, We get here,
It has been atrocious here for the last few days,

Any where in Bass Strait over the last couple of days would have been Horrendous as an Under statement,

I particularly like the line “has sold his ill-fated yacht”!

It was all the yacht’s fault, see.

There’ll be $1m spent on SAR ops for this guy by the time this search is done...

Re: Two men missing in South Australian waters off Port Lincoln

An excerpt from an article on page 3 of today's The Australian:

"He had a blunt message to his detractors after comparisons were made to British sailor Tony Ballimore, whose 1997 disappearance at sea sparked a rescue that cost Australian tax payers an estimated $6m.

"They can stick it up their arse," Mr Higgins said. "They need to get a life and spend a bit less time critiquing people from an armchair. I went and bought a boat. How else was I going to get it back? Fly it? People have been punching around the oceans for thousands of years. They never had anyone to go out and rescue them, and I never expected anyone to look for me. I'm self sustaining and if I f...k it up, then I have to pay the price."

A persistent rugged individual perhaps?
