Isn’t this true. I offered 15% less than asking on the first Luders 33 I saw, and had the offer flatly rejected. Not even a counter offer. Found the subsequent one which was a better boat with a new engine for less money. Bought it and then watched the first boat sit on the market for another year and a half and then sell for far less than I had initially offered. I was pretty gleeful.

Robert Perry design
Complete refit.

Boat was purchased in 2010 by current owner, a retired marine industry professional with extensive experience in custom yacht construction and refit. After an exhaustive search for the perfect cruising boat in the mid 40’ range capable of being handled by a single person the conclusion was reached that it would be necessary to spend in the vicinity of $500,000 U.S. to purchase a used vessel in order to meet the requirements. It was then determined to purchase the best available hull and deck and do a complete refit/rebuild in order to create a vessel that would meet the requirements. The Robert Perry designed Cheoy Lee met the standard for solid build quality, and classic looks along with a well found hull shape and excellent sailing characteristics . The boat originally had no equipment other than a battery charger, vhf radio, and manual flush toilets. All other systems were original to 1982. The parameters for the total refit were to use the best available materials, and equipment regardless of cost. No timeline or budget was established, therefore no restrictions as to expense. All interior construction work was performed by the owner and a mega-yacht refit specialist to very high standards. The results of this project are a perfect live aboard, world cruising capable sailing yacht with a classic look and modern reliable systems at a fraction of the cost of a new vessel. The amount of time that went into this project cannot be quantified, and luckily it was a labour of love as the
total cost of the project will never be recovered at a reasonable sale price.
Now equipped as the perfect world cruising boat for a couple with occasional guests, she represents an excellent opportunity to purchase a vessel that is ready to go now without the need for updating or extensive work to bring it current with endless hours of improvements. One look at the long list of current equipment, electronics, sails and rigging and a potential buyer in the market for a vessel in this size range will instantly recognize the incredible value of this modernized classic.

You are selling an excellant live a board ocean heavy duty cruiser. Bob Perry did a great job on design and durability. I lived on my Bob Perry 37'er for 5 years and it was great. Who ever purchases yours will be glad they did. As always "Safe Sailing"

Keep in mind the original cost of the boat plus over $130,000 in refit cost.

Let me hear your opinions.
Unfortunately, refit has nothing to do with value much. I bought a 47 foot boat, immediately put $60k in refit work. I ended up putting for sale within a year (long story) and got... wait for it... the same $ I originally paid! AND it took over a year to sell it.

The Cheoy 44 is a sweet looking boat. I've not found C Lee's to be as good quality as say the Ta Shing built Taiwan boats, but not bad. I however have not looked at the 44. I suggest it's worth maybe $10k more than your average CL44 sale? whatever that is.

Re: 1982 Cheoy Lee 44' total refit

I bought mine 1981 in 1988 for $37500. Put over $90000 in it not counting many hours in labor doing almost all the work myself and sold it in Australia after 13 great years sailing and 5 years living aboard while sailing from NY to Australia as health hindered my return to Australia sold for $50000AU. Miss it but life goes on.

Market is slow, bank it and wait for prices / buyers to come back,,,in the mean time simply put it up on VRBO for weekly rental this winter with condition that she not leave the dock! Covid safe for thos wishing to avoid hotels. Lots of boats in Florida have been converted to seasonal rentals

Pretty much everyone's been saying the opposite, because of COVID. In the last year all the good boats are gone, leaving just projects and overpriced behind. Trailers/RV dealers are rather empty these days.

The overall feeling I get is that once we're all vaccinated and life returns to normal (say by summer) that the boat-seller's market will reverse. All the people who bought boats by-the-hip will be flooding the market.

OP just lowered his price to $79k, good move, and needs to watch the market carefully.

Lots of threads on CF with folks trying to pull trigger on buying cruise ready boats. My iPhone app freezes every time I try to copy a link to this thread but I’m sure a little bit of work my OP could match this thread to those looking...

Ugh terrible autocorrect above- meant with a little bit of work the OP could respond to those seeking a refitted cruise ready boat. For sure this Cheoy Lee is a great deal albeit for a somewhat narrow buying market...
