Victron Orion 12/12-30 Amps at Float

Hi,
Does anyone know the amp draw of the Victron Orion 12/12-30 DC-DC charger at float on an AGM or Optima battery? Thinking about ways float charge the start battery off of house bank without shore power or solar.
Thank you
Don

the battery will take whatever it wants. + add any ongoing loads. there is no answer to this question.

what is charging the house battery if you don't have shore or solar? the orion setup correctly is voltage triggered so the incomming battery needs to be charging for it to turn on to charge the output battery

If both battery banks are similar lead chemistries, how about a VSR and a switch. Just set an alarm on the phone to turn it off.

BEP do These https://www.bepmarine.com/en/Product...ution-Clusters

Some VSRs will allow current to trigger the VSR in either direction, others are just single direction.

VSRs don't work with LifePO4 btw, voltage is too high.

I'm trying to estimate how many amphours per day will be used to keep an AGM in float plus overhead of Orion DC/DC - no other loads. I won't get back to the boat till June, so I can't test this out.

Assuming the battery is actually full, it's minimal. I'm using an 18A orion to keep my starter battery on the float.

The baseline draw for my boat is about 22W. But that's keeping my starter battery charged, my instrumentation running, AIS transponder running, LTE router running, and the monitoring electronics for my LFP power system (Cerbo GX etc...).

I think the Orion is only a couple watts at most.

The numbers for the Orion look ok, though the efficiency is a bit lower than I’d like.

If you combine the data from the two screen shots attached it should give you an idea. My solar controller is connected to a new Victron 90AH AGM which has no loads. In my case I’d be using 34 Wh each day. Kinda tiny.

Tiny 34WH per day…
Well take a 100AH AGM, discharge 50AH possible with 12.5V average is 625WH divided by 34WH daily is 18,4 days…won‘t last long.
Better charge full and disconnect.

This is why God invented solar panels.
