Just leave on a salon light and a cockpit light, along with your anchor light. Legal, not confusing and effective.

Exactly! ALWAYS be in compliance - THEN do whatever the given situation requires for you to stay safe.

In respect of 1, what equipment are you using and for what periods of time.

The same question for 2, and does this include use of an autohelm the whole time?

What part of the world are you basing your answer on?

.. .. and Amps used being total Amps used, excluding any replaced by any means.
1 - 150-175/ radio, frig, tv and computers for a few hours
2 - 180-200/24 hours and yes that includes the autopilot

Re: How many Amps Hours do you use a day?

Family of 3 on a 42 foot cat, mostly LED lights including anchor light, fridge/freezer, 3 12V fans at night, usual assortment of laptops and phones PLUS an Xbox and TV for the 13 year old. Been on a mooring ball for a bit in sunny Marathon, FL. Upon waking the Blue Sky IPN Remote shows, on average, 83% & -160Amp Hrs from full and volts around 12.2V. I have minimal solar, which I need to address ($$$$), so I run the genset, NL 6kW, for an hour to 2 hours to get between 93% to 95% from full and I let the solar take over. It usually hits 100% and stays there for an hour or two, which I'm thinking and hoping is good. Then the whole process starts over.

I am shooting from the hip tho as this is a new to us boat and I've not the knowledge or ability at this point to determine true battery capacity of 4, two-year old 210 AGMs. I also don't know how accurate the Blue Sky is at this point.

I'm not kidding myself about battery capacity, I'm sure it is down some but not sure how much. I'm hoping everything is close and I am at least trying to treat the batteries good.

Whoops you don’t mean Power you mean Energy! When ‘correcting’ another forum member, particularly when we all knew what he meant, it pays to be ‘correct’.

Finally, an honest answer and I'm sure this is typical for being at anchor, using the equipment usually found on a 45ft cruising boat when you have a decent freezer and the weather and sea is moderately warm.

Over the last 20 years I've had the same setup in the boat, I guess countless days anchoring months at a time. We have A/H meter and I'm constantly monitoring it, and some days we can go without sun or gen/motor charging but if we do then we are down about 75A on each of two house batteries. Our water cooled freezer and reefer require 28A for about 4 hours per day, in coastal Mexico where the water is fairly cool. I keep the freezer cold plate between -15 and 0 deg F. Need to make ice cubes for my wife, who is a bit picky about her margaritas.

When we didn't run the freezer, we only used about 80AH per day.

At sea we are on autopilot full time, it draws 2A average. So that's another 24AH to add to the usage. But we would usually run the engine when the wind is light or on the nose, so not much problem there.

Re: How many Amps Hours do you use a day?

We have a 600ah battery bank with 640 watts solar panel. At anchor we use avg of 90 ah per day with 5 cu ft. Refer and 45 Liter Engels used as freezer with hard ice cream as well as computers and general lighting. under sail we use avg of 130 ah a day only vhf auto pilot nav lights and instruments.

I'm hoping he'd actually have had personal experience with either.

Re: How many Amps Hours do you use a day?

45 foot Bristol.

We use around 50 to 60 amp hr a day on the hook with fridge and a separate deep freeze running, lights. electric heads , tv radio... ect.

During passages with the auto pilot on and full navigation systems ( AIS 4G radar 3 chart plotters) running we can get up to 180ah.

Regards John.
