Re: Weather Routing

Hi Just seeing if this is an error with my inputs or a plugin error.

I can run a weather route and when I look at the outputs in report and also in plot it shows both wind direction and apparent wind angle identical and in error to the grib. Ie the report tells me that I will be going upwind for 8% of the time but the grib suggests it will be downwind. Similarly the AWA is all less than 90 but the grib suggests it will be around 90-130.

In the attached image (sorry cant work out how to paste inside this box) the grib advanced to the departure time, shows wind direction around 140 and course of 268. But yet the AWA is around 70. To me it appears as though its calculating AWA based on the course heading the opposite direction. I have checked the waypoints and they are correct (or else course would be 90 not 270).

I have attached the polars as well.

We need to be able to recreate this using Opencpn. Please attach your polar file, your weatherConfiguration.xml file and the grib file that you used.

Thanks.

What about now for the time that Weather Routing exists? Is this text still adapted or should it be modified/updated/deleted in the crowdin?

Rick asked me to update the pot-file and load to Crowdin. Now done.
The help text you referred wasn't marked for translation in the code so I changed that.

Please check Crowdin if I succeeded to cover your appreciated comments. No problem to update or change if you find any inaccuracy.

BTW: The (auto generated) "-nan(ind)" text in the configuration window I didn't found an easy way to mark for translation. Do you think we can live with it as is or should I try harder?

For the French language, it's almost over. I still have the Italian to translate. A little patience and it will be done.

If the "-nand(ind)" text is automatic, let's leave it as it is.

Re: Weather Routing

Regarding WR, I found an item that is used twice, but with different meanings. It's a small bug. This is the "Time" item.

See the two screenshots.

- On the one hand, in the "Configuration/Base", the item is used in the left part, at the top, to enter the departure time of the "Weather-Route". It must be translated by "Heure" or "Depart, heure" as I did in my test.

- On the other hand, it appears in one of the columns of the main window and this column contains the navigation duration of the "Weather-Route". It should be translated as "Durée" in French. The "Duration" item already exists in Crowdin. So the column title should be "Duration" in the English version.

This should be corrected.

Gilletarom.

Re: Weather Routing

Gille..
This is how it looks by latest WR update 1.1.3.48 and I suppose it's the code from where I make the translation files.
When the string "Time" appears I think the meaning are the same for all locations? Or do you need to divide between "Time" in the meaning a certain hour of the day and "Time" in the meaning of consumed time?
In that case the code has to be changed.

In Swedish a translation of "Time" can be understood for both occasions.

Sorry to bore you with my observations.

Technically, I can put the word "Temps" anywhere. But, that loses meaning. In the context of a date with departure time, it is even really unsuitable. As for the problem of the code to change so that the title of the column is adapted, I expected it.

Really, personally, I want a modification, certainly slight, of the code.

On the other hand, I observe inconvenience when opening the main window.

Each time you restart OpenCPN and therefore WR, you have to re-expand, manually, the columns of the main window, on the right side. It's pretty boring in my opinion.

Why that ?

- First possible cause: Because the column width values are not saved in the "ini" file when you close OpenCPN.

- Second possible cause, if the values are saved when closing: Then, the values are not correctly reloaded when restarting OpenCPN
- Third cause ??? I do not know.

So, if an adaptation of the code has to be done, maybe we can expect everything to be improved.

Gilletarom.

Re: Weather Routing

Gille, you raise a good point about saving the menu display settings. I have noticed it too. A number of Sean's plugins do not have this feature. Watchdog seems to be saving the menu settings. Weatherfax saves some but it also needs some improvement in the way it expands and contracts.

I don't know how to save the settings, so this is something someone else would do after the language files are done.
One thing at a time.

What OS? Don't you use PIM from within Opencpn? It is available there!
Otherwise use Cloudsmith Opencpn Plugin repository.

Re: Weather Routing

I'm new to the forum so apologies if this is in the wrong section - Using Weather routing Windows 7 Opencpn V 5.2.4+6b314e6.
Using weather routing crashes on use - when at the 'configuring and sending email to Saildocs' box I get the message unable to complete function mail client not properly installed (mail is working)- the IE logo on the taskbar then shows 54 programs running - all the same message 'navigation cancelled - Internet Explorer' - the only way to progress is to restart - sometimes if I leave it long enough I get the updated Grib file.
I have opencpn V 4.0.0 also installed - no problem with getting Grib

I've found the same problem on the forum for Apple not Windows (have tried the Apple work around but it doesn't work).
Please advise

Re: Weather Routing

If you were to read the manual you would find that weather-routing uses a number of other plugins. One of those is the grib_pi plugin which handles the retrieval of grib files, so I suggest you read the manual for grib_pi too
The problem appears to me, to be that you do not have an email client configured. You need to have an email client in order to send an email request to the on line grib server you also need a good internet connection. Perhaps with this background you can look into this a little further and report back with any questions?

Re: Weather Routing

I'm trying to figure out why I am getting No Data Error. I have attached the GRIB, Polar, and screenshot of route and installed plugins. Am I missing a plugin?
