Re: TRACKER/FLYSPRAY: When and How to use it

+1

Also I notice that there are a lot of requests with 0 votes. Even the submitter's haven't voted.

In my opinion, the daily vote limit of 5? votes is limiting.

For each project; Tracker/Flyspray display a screen with a line composed by several columns, each column title can be select and sorted (ascendant / descendant).

The screen "All Projects" displays these colums : ID Project Task Type Operating System SeveritySummaryOpenedVotes OpenBy

by Numerotation; you must click on the "ID field" column title
or by request related to (OpenCPN, Plugins...); click on "Project"

If I were a programmer, I definitely would not consider programming feature requests with no votes! There are too many other higher priority items needed.

Re: TRACKER/FLYSPRAY: When and How to use it

I can't access any of the links, or via the OpenCPN button. I get code instead:

"Strict Standards: Non-static method Flyspray::absoluteURI() should not be called statically in /home/will/public_html/flyspray/includes/constants.inc.php on line 29 Strict Standards: Non-static method Flyspray::get_tmp_dir() .......

....and much more.

Firefox 29 on Win 7 x64. Page info shows the render mode is "Quirks mode".

Is there a setting to change?

Re: TRACKER/FLYSPRAY: When and How to use it

Hi Vanderlust and all

Got the same trouble after my own checking few minutes ago.

Is this problem related to the latest outage which happens 2 days ago?

Keep you informed

Re: TRACKER/FLYSPRAY: When and How to use it

OpenCPNers,

Please use TRACKER/FLYSPRAY with no moderation; you will be sure that any bug, any remark, any suggestion... will be traced, analyzed and taken in account.

How to access TRACKER/FLYSPRAY:
Select the “tracker Button” (http://opencpn.org/ocpn/) in the upper right hand side of the menu.

How to register onto TRACKER/FLYSPRAY:
In the upper part of the screen; there is a place to register, and a place to login.
Nota: no registration gives a limited access to functionalities

How to select a category (project):
In the 2nd line of the screen (upper left Handside); a listbox with categories (project list) concerning OpenCPN and Plugins has been set.
So far, in the project list, you can select between :
All Projects
0 - OpenCPN Feature Requests [for Opencpn feature requests)
1 - OpenCPN 3.2.x Stable
2 - OpenCPN 3.3.x Beta
documentation

pi-AIS Radar
....
Plugin System
Short Cuts & Touchscreen

How to enter a request:
Browse through the tasklist to be sure that it is not already there; if not
>> Concerning OpenCPN :
- ask for a new functionality by address it via ‘new features’ project.
- report a bug by address it to the version of your running OpenCPN

>> Concerning Plugins:
- address by Plugin and identify "beta" or "release" and "bug" or "feature" and name (and version) of plugin.

How to close a request:
When a new version of OpenCPN and/or plugin has been released, check if your submitted requests have been taken into account, if Yes, thanks for asking for its closure.

How to vote for a request:
Select a task and click on the “vote button” on the Left handside
Use with no moderation, this is how to pinpoint what functionality is important to you.
Nota: by pressing “overview” you will get the list for the most wanted task of the category.

Thanks everyone

Serge

Re: TRACKER/FLYSPRAY: When and How to use it

HI,

335 requests in the portfolio, this is far too much.

A pruning action will be shortly launch on the requests with no vote (2010 - 2011).

Do not forget to vote for the request(s) important to you.

Re: TRACKER/FLYSPRAY: When and How to use it

Let me suggest a few things for your consideration.

1. Assume each request has one vote from the author of the request. The mere fact that someone took the trouble to pay a request indicates a level of interest that meets our exceeds that represented by a vote.

2. Votes are not the best way to allocate resources to a project. It's more important to consider the impact the request has on the program's development and the difficulty of implementing the request. All other things being equal it makes more sense to implement requests that involve less effort. That allows more requests to be cleared in less time. Requests that are essentially "eye candy" should have a list priority than bug fixes or requests that add new functionality to the program, especially if you are comparing requests of equal difficulty. It's fine to use votes to indicate the demand for a particular feature but votes shouldn't be the only consideration.

I do not agree, too many requests (features...) have been deposed without any update (remarks....). I bet that several initiators have deserted the tool

Do not agree too, my technical knowledge is too limited to analyse the complexity for coding a request (ie a supposed "eye candy request" may be more time consuming than a supposed "complex".

My purpose is to give some guidance to the developper team (all volunteers).
Do not hesitate to join us ( Rgleason and I) in that task; we will be pleased to get on board.
Serge.
