Re: Tactics Plugin

@big_Tom PR for language from Hakan
@snoeni
Tactics_pi Windows installation is uploaded generally to

OpenCPN Beta File Thingie rguser, rgpass
Look under Tactics_pi

Are you desktop bound? - Tactic-Sample files (3) are here, these are played with VDR

@everyone - I've been reading back. What a great thread, lots of excellent ideas and great graphs (thanks NAV)

The Language Confusion (babel) can be daunting, see what NAV posted:

Quote:
In fact, Bowditch describes Course Made Good as a misnomer too, and prefers the use of the term Track Made Good.

The additional problem we have in the Netherlands: the words for velocity (vector) and speed (scalar) are the same ("snelheid").
- So Bowditch preferred TMG over CMG.
- There is a suggestion to use VPW Velocity Parallel to Wind (Seaclear uses this) to be different from VMG (to Mark), which would leave VMG to be Velocity made good to Mark (or to Course). So this is the counter to calling VMC. - Maybe we should just bail on VMG totally because it has so many meanings, .. just use VMC and VPW, --Then would anyone know what we are talking about?

Not just good old SeaClear calulates VPW for "Velocity Parallel to Wind" but also B&G instruments, at least my mix of H2000/H3000 (newer B&G seems to use VMG for this, see Glossary)

The B&G glossary also shows VMC as
Quote:
a measure of speed towards a specific Mark or target, gives actual progress towards a specific point on a course. Often referred to as "VMG to Waypoint". If you see "VMG" on a GPS unit, it is really VMC.
I am all for using VPW & VMC and getting rid of the ambiguous VMG

Re: Tactics Plugin

Tom R. about this topic said his B&G use VMC and so he suggested that. So, B&G uses the terms VMC and VPW?

Well, I have NKE, not B&G but anyway ...
I think literally everyone uses different synonyms of what I call CMG & VMG in the plugin.

I parameterized both terms now, you can set them in the opencpn.ini file to whatever term you like...

Once you "upgrade" to 1.0.3, you will have 2 parameters in the ini file under chapter
[PlugIns/Tactics]
...
CMGSynonym=CMG
VMGSynonym=VMG
...
Just change the text after the '='

I just created another package, but Virustotal reports again 1 false positive (the same than with 1.0.0, whereas 1.0.1 reported to be clean). So I will not upload this package, but create a zip again.
Github is updated already.

It'll take another one ore two hours until I can upload the zip to Ricks file thingie.

Best,

Thomas

Re: Tactics Plugin

We where on route from the Canaries to Cap Verde and had northerly winds,
as are the prevailing. The Wind History I think can be enhanced.
When the wind varies around north the display is hardly usable. Se attachment.
Also I have noticed that sometimes it looses TWD even though the True Wind Dir shows correct wind direction.

Thomas,

I have created a pull request for a background change in the OSX installer.

Hans,

you don't have a VDR file where I can reproduce this, do you ?

Re: Tactics Plugin

Great addition to OpenCPN thank to all for their contributions and hard work.
I just installed latest version from ricks file thingy and noticed the option to show polar on chart in settings located under the load polar box is missing. Also missing is menu option to display polar on screen in tactics_pi instrument panel. Am I doing something wrong. I did load a simple polar which I created in the polar plugin.
Tks,

Jesse

Jesse,
are you sure you downloaded and installed the latest version ?
Sounds like a very old version of the plugin.
Please report the version number of tactics_pi under Options->Plugins ...
It should read "Tactics 1.0"
Filename of the latest version on Ricks file thingy is tactics_pi_win32_1.0.3.zip

Re: Tactics Plugin

As Thomas suggested, look in the tactics folder for most current.
