Send to Peer not working Windows 11 to Android

Hi All,
Has anyone been successful using Send To Peer from Windows 11 to an Android tablet or phone. I never see the Android devices on the network -- and they don't see the Windows PC. Sometimes (but only sometimes) the phone and tablet see each other.
Thanks,
Bruce

Windows 11 22H
OpenCPN 5.8.4 Release
Android:
OpenCPN 5.8.4

Moto G Pure with Android 12
Samsung Galaxy Tablet S6 Lite SM-P610 with Android 13

Hello BBalan,

I observe that there are often several times a week alpha versions of OpenCPN of the future version of OpenCPN. Of course, you have to look for them in the cloud but these versions 5.9.0.XXX install very well alongside version 584 under Windows. Have you tried using these versions to test and see if things work better with peer to peer on these versions?

Test with: W10, O5.9.0.xxx, Android V13 on a Xiaomi POCO 5 smartphone No problem sending a trace from the PC to the smartphone.
But, I can't update the trace over time. It is not possible. You constantly have to send manually. This is not practical.

The solution consists of using a local wifi network to send the position of the boat to the smartphone on which the GPS has been closed, by setting up a connection on the PC, UDP mode, as output and a connection, UDP mode, as input on the smartphone via wifi to send the boat's position to the smartphone from the PC.

It is better to send the route to the smartphone from the PC with "peer to peer" and let OpenCPN create a track on the smartphone.

Re: Send to Peer not working Windows 11 to Android

Hi Gilletarom,
I'm trying to send routes almost exclusively... but it doesn't matter so much since I can't even see the other devices. I'll try one of the alphas to see if it works better when I get some good internet.
Thanks,
Bruce

bblan..
It works well also between my devices PC-Tablet-Phone. Some times I've to "Scan again" though.

What kind of network do you use? You of course know both need to be on the same local net/gateway.
Do you use a (wifi)router or the phone's "Hot spot" or...?

Re: Send to Peer not working Windows 11 to Android

Hi Hakan,
I've tried it using a hotspot from a phone as well as the wifi network from my Pitufino NMEA multiplexer. Tried scanning many times but nothing shows. I've also tried turning off my Bitdefender Total Security and Windows Firewall. But there could be a setting I'm missing somewhere that is blocking the pings to find other devices.
I'll keep experimenting.
Cheers,
Bruce

Re: Send to Peer not working Windows 11 to Android

Bruce.
If ping does not work then OCPN would never find it.

I've some strange not detected devices by the mDNS query OCPN uses to located other OCPN. And this is not at all related to Androids.
I've the feeling some routers won't route the mDNS query to all involved?

Re: Send to Peer not working Windows 11 to Android

OK, did some more testing.
Network: Android phone hotspot
Works both ways from Samsung tablet to Win 11 laptop
and
from Win 11 laptop to Samsung tablet

Switch to Pitufino (NMEA wifi multiplexer)
Close and open OCPN on each device.
Works from Samsung tablet to Win 11 laptop
but NOT from Win 11 laptop to tablet.

Can successfully ping tablet from laptop.

I know the developer of the Pitufino (a GREAT product). Anything I should ask him that might cause this?

Thanks,
Bruce

P.S. The reason I've been having trouble is I'm almost always connected to the Pitufino when I'm trying to Send to Peer. At least now I know I can do it with my hotspot network.

Re: Send to Peer not working Windows 11 to Android

Bruce..
I'm not a network expert but you may ask the developer why the mDNS query from-to the Android is not forwarded?
One example below.

Code:
428 52.337734 192.168.98.20 224.0.0.251 MDNS 90 Standard query 0x0000 PTR opencpn-object-control-service, "QU" question
