Re: RTZassist - OpenCPN is not an ECDIS

This is an interesting development using ROT or derivative.

Re: RTZassist - OpenCPN is not an ECDIS

That is exactly what need to be done, using a check box in which the vessel lenght, beam and others if necessary. This is important on large vessel, specially when small boat may hamper their safe passage. Don't tell me the whistle can be use.

Re: RTZassist - OpenCPN is not an ECDIS

This theoretical reasoning will not lead to any useful practical solution, I think.
The actual turn angle factor for a arbitrarily vessel must be nearly impossible to prefigure. You may be able to enter a factor for your own ship based on experiences and adjust it due to actual load, ship speed, wind/current leeway, propeller twist angle and of course used rudder angle. And also that will ask for some efforts.
Compare to the Auto pilot regulator's automatic parameters adjustment. It's based on algorithms developed for say thirty years and need a reality feedback to work. And in the end it still often fails when used.
It may be bcn know a lot of this kind of engineering?

Re: RTZassist - OpenCPN is not an ECDIS

If I remember, I saw it on Transas; then, if it is good for them, I don't see why it would not be good in OpenCpn.
Best Regards.

Re: RTZassist - OpenCPN is not an ECDIS

And that is the reason for the RTZ route plugin!

Still searching for someone to test RTZ files on ECDIS.

Can you make the plugin for OpenCpn, then I could see. My version of Transas is gone.

Re: RTZassist - OpenCPN is not an ECDIS

For translations to/from many useful formats:

ECDIS Route Manager (by Yury Komar)

Go to the bottom of the thread for version 1.7.6.

Wartsila iSailor on Android is able to import a range of file formats.

Re: RTZassist - OpenCPN is not an ECDIS

P_Dub...

Extract the files from the zip and run the .exe.

It can create a GPX for OpenCPN from an ECDIS route. It will not include a radius turn that can be drawn by OpenCPN (at the moment).

Re: RTZassist - OpenCPN is not an ECDIS

Playing with Android Wartsila iSailor (free download):

Transas (now Wartsila) uses a proprietary gpx extension for turn radius when the route from iSailor is exported to GPX.

Why not an extension to a new OpenCPN schema for waypoint turn radius? An example of an export from iSailor is attached.

Forget bezier curves etc and just plot an arc for the turn, if the waypoint includes a turn radius. Export to RTZ is simplified as well.
