Problem adding NZ ENC files

I previously followed the process outlined by David Burch to add NZ ENC charts to opencpn (). After the year, my permit expired.

I recreated the system on the encservice site and got a new PERMIT.TXT that's valid till 01/31/2025, but the charts aren't showing up in opencpn anymore.

I follow all the steps and the charts seem to be imported into the S63 plugin and it does a lot of processing to create the files. Once it's completed, I don't see any outlines for New Zealand or the South Pacific.

I do notice errors in the log file that contain lines like this:

Code:
10:50:45.950 MESSAGE chartdbs.cpp:2526 Loading chart data for /home/xentac/.var/app/org.opencpn.OpenCPN/config/opencpn/s63/s63charts/NZ/WS504125.os63
10:50:45.950 MESSAGE chartdbs.cpp:2531 ...creation failed for /home/xentac/.var/app/org.opencpn.OpenCPN/config/opencpn/s63/s63charts/NZ/WS504125.os63
10:50:45.950 MESSAGE chartdbs.cpp:2174 CreateChartTableEntry() failed for file: /home/xentac/.var/app/org.opencpn.OpenCPN/config/opencpn/s63/s63charts/NZ/WS504125.os63
I've included the entire opencpn.log file as well.

Xentac...

Please start OpenCPN, go to Settings->Charts->S63 Charts.

In the Keys/Permits tab, please select "New Installpermit". The text field should be automatically filled in by your install permit. Push the button "Test installpermit". Report results.

Same for "UserPermit", please.

Thanks
Dave

When I click "Test installpermit" it says "Install permit OK". When I click "Test Userpermit" it says "Userpermit OK".

Re: Problem adding NZ ENC files

Xentac...
So far, no obvious problems found.
The could be some conflct with you older expired charts.

Let us try this:
1. Delete the directory:
"/home/xentac/.var/app/org.opencpn.OpenCPN/config/opencpn/s63/s63charts"

and

"/home/xentac/.var/app/org.opencpn.OpenCPN/config/opencpn/s63/s63SENC"

2. Then, re-add the NZ S63 charts from scratch, as downloaded from the HO.

Thanks

Re: Problem adding NZ ENC files

After all the permits and charts are added and I click Ok and the "OpenCPN Chart Add..." dialog opens.

Once it gets to the NZ charts, I see a window like this:

Code:
o-charts_pi Message

This chart cannot be loaded due to any of the following reasons:

- You have made important hardware changes on your computer.
- Your OS has been updated and your license has been suspended.
- This chart set was prepared for another system.
- This chart set was prepared for a USB key dongle, but dongle is not detected.
- There are corrupted files due to errors during download or unzip.

Please contact info@o-charts.org if the problem persists.

This is a message of the o-charts plug-in and not from the S-63 plug-in.
Did you try to install the S-63 set as an o-charts one?

Re: Problem adding NZ ENC files

I noticed that as well. I never click any buttons on the "o-charts" tab, I'm only in the "S63 Charts". I click the "Import Cell Permits..." button first, then the "Import Charts/Updates..." button. I select the directory that I unzipped into, though sometimes it defaults to the ENC_ROOT subdirectory. It doesn't seem to matter if I choose the root or the ENC_ROOT subdir.

What am I doing that's causing the o-charts plugin to process those charts? Should I try disabling the plugin (I'm a little afraid I'll lose access to my purchases if I mess with the plugin).

Re: Problem adding NZ ENC files

I tried disabling the o-charts plugin and readding the NZ charts. Same problem, but no o-charts error dialog.

Reading through the log again, I noticed a suspicious set of lines during some of the chart processing:

Re: Problem adding NZ ENC files

xentac...
The message quoted comes for o-charts, all right. It is triggered when the chart database is updated after adding new charts. Your o-charts will not be usable without a new FPR assignment from the o-charts shop. This is not related to the current S63 problems.

To avoid confusion, I recommend that you temporarily remove the o-charts chart files from your chart list, while we work the S63 questions.

Back to the point: Any difference in S63 after deleting directories (see above) and reloading?

Thanks
Dave

Please verify what version of S63 plugin you have installed.
