OpenCPN Version 5.1.712 RC3 Test

Hello all OpenCPN supporters !

Continuing our Beta test, here is RC3 v5.1.712

Here are the links for Windows and Mac installation packages.

The downloadable installers for Mac and Windows are here:
Windows

http://download.opencpn.org/beta/ope...9f09_setup.exe

MacOS
http://download.opencpn.org/beta/Ope...+1.3a39f09.pkg

For linux users running a debian-derivative distribution, you may install the Beta using your distro's package management tools.
Packages for Trusty, Xenial, Bionic, and Focal are available from the OpenCPN Beta PPA.

Please note that above links are fixed, and will not reflect the ongoing daily build cycles.
If you need to test a feature that you know or suspect has been fixed or added by a daily build, you may find it here:
https://cloudsmith.io/~david-registe...able/packages/

Here is a list of some of the corrections and new features in this Beta release:

RC3 5.1.712
-----------------------

1. Improve Windows USB serial connection restart after plug/unplug.
2. Improve Dashboard rendering on loss of datastream.

Plan:
The RC3 is a "Release Candidate". In theory, only the Version Indicator text shall be changed to create a formal Release. Only significant and reproducible bugs will be addressed in this test cycle. Minor bugs with workarounds available will be allowed to stand.
Of course, in practice, we will consider each bug reported on its own "merits".

Getting very close now...
Thanks
Dave and the OCPN Team

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.1.712 RC3 Test

Dave,

First start of version 712, Ok.

Checking the plugins in the options: ok. Updating the plugin catalog, ok.
closing OpenCPN then restarting OpenCPN: Crash. And now crash every time you try to start OpenCPN 712 with plugins. But OpenCPN starts correctly without the plugins.

Here join a file with my ini and my log file. Please, put out ".doc" and then unzip it.

Dave,

I observe that, now, my other versions of OpenCPN, previously installed in parallel, also crash.

Note: The "WindVane" plugin may be the cause. It's the only one I tried to activate today. In addition, I observed that this plugin did not remain activated after a voluntary termination of OpenCPN.

Dave, you've improved OpenCPN's performance with mbTiles tremendously, & that's great. But there are still some issues. I have separated my mbTiles by map-type & put them in different chart-groups, so ArcGIS is 1, Bing is 2 ... & Navionics is 5.

When OpenCPN is started for the first time, it wakes up on the chart group where it was when it was shut down. But switching to a new chart-group can take a LONG time, especially with my big mbTiles. And there's NO indication that OpenCPN's doing anything! No confirmation that it's even received the key-stroke.

It would be nice if it put up some sort of progress bar, or even just changed the mouse to an "I'm busy" pointer, since OpenCPN is essentially locked up until it digests all the charts in the new group.

If it's too late in the cycle for this sort of thing, I'll put it in Flyspray.

Version 5.1.712 work OK in windows 10, except that the tide icons are a bit too small and if you try to adjust with chart object scale, then the soundings are too big figure. So, if this can be separatd it would be better. Good job.
Thanks and have a good day.

The ENC Soundings size can be adjusted independently of Chart Object size with a sliding scale on the User Interface tab. You may have to scroll down to see it ... ...

Gilletarom...

Please try to manually disable "windvane" plugin in the config file, restart OCPN, and see if that helps.
If not, then proceed to disable more plugins, in the config file, one-by-one, until you discover the problem child.

Thanks
Dave

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.1.712 RC3 Test

Dave,

Today, I did the big laundry for the OpenCPN versions. All installed versions were carefully uninstalled then CCleaner.

Then I reinstalled the OpenCPN 5.1.712 + 392640c version found on the cloud, a newer version than the official RC3 version.

1 °
Different tests. Validation of all plugins in the "master catalog". As before, VindVane is automatically deactivated each time OpenCPN is closed.

2 °
Correct display of nautical charts:
- oeSENC, oeRNC, but without updating, because my charts are all too old.
- NV-Charts, including some old chart that O 5.0 did not display correctly.
- VisitMyHarbour,
- Kap chart from Brazil (after using the chartdownloader),
- Kap chart obtained from sQuiddio.

3 °
Question: Why is the NV-Chart plugin not in the list of plugins in the "Master" catalog?

4 °
Reading a VDR file: Ok.

5 ° CRASH
OpenCPN Crash by starting the WR 1.13.14.0 plugin. I disabled JonGough's TestPlugin plugin, it didn't change anything.
That said, OpenCPN re-start and work with the other plugins.

In the next version could it be possible to make make route with 1 decimal, instead of always round of figure? That would be appreciated.

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.1.712 RC3 Test

Hi,

For your information, it seems that tactics plugin (OPCN 5.1.712) is not working properly with a SignalK connection, some values are missing.
If I use a TCP connection, NMEA0183 signals being generated from the same signalK server, everything seems to work properly, as it was in OCPN 5.0 (Windows 10 1909)

Cheers, and thanks for this great work.
