What's new in OpenCPN version 5.2 ?

The OpenCPN Team has put together a first version of a summary of new features in version 5.2.

Available here:
https://opencpn.org/OpenCPN/about/ver520.html

Have we missed anything essential? Any errors? Does anything needs more explanation? Anything else?

Keep the discussion here to the content of the document.

Any issues with the OpenCPN beta releases should, as before, be raised in the latest beta thread.

Flatpack and external (managed and unmanaged) plug-ins.
How does that work?

Hubert

From the text

Quote:
OpenCPN on Linux, installed with Flatpak should use "Managed Plugins".
This quote is from bdbcat's intro thread to flatpak.
It is in the text about Managed Plugins. It may be a good idea to repeat it when writing about flatpak.

External plugins will not automatically work with flatpak.

My feeling is that once the managed plugins are really sorted out, and all available, they will be so convenient for the user so no one will ask for external plugins.

Thomas..
Very good assembled!
Maybe a hint for SignalK?
Existing Dashboard instruments now also understand the SignalK specific messages when connected to a SK server. So if e.g. N2K instruments are connected to SK applicable data will be shown in Dashboard. No need to manually transfer to NMEA0183 in SK.

Re: What's new in OpenCPN version 5.2 ?

Håkan,

Good point. Will include.

Thanks for fixing all that in the code!

Another tangent....
Should we also include the major bug fixes in this document?
I think we have quite a few new user, that started with 5.0...
The bug fixes will for them seem like "new" features ?
Views on this?

Thomas..

re. Bug Fixes: your are describing functionalities. As an annex of the manual.

The release note of 5.2 will include the bug fixes as always, I suppose.

Thomas..
A thought...
Wasn't there a support for RTZ routes implemented in this beta? If so it may be suitable to mention?

No.

Rasbats introduced a tool recently to convert RTZ to GPX.
Remember this thread https://www.cruisersforum.com/forums...is-233949.html ?

I take for granted that it will be included i OpenCPN in the future, as it is an International standard for route exchange, but that will be after the release of 5.2.

Where is that 5.2 version? Or is it just a preview of what it might be?
Have a good day.
