Re: OpenCPN Version 2.4 Beta Build 324
I guess it is time to introduce some more democratics into the development of OpenCPN and not to produce features nobody wants and which crashes the soft.
Only by reading some threads here I have found out that OpenCPN is capable of linking external documents to a waypoint simply with right-click menu when the GPX has such links inside. This feature was documented nowhere. Why not make a nice GPX/waypoint editor for such things?
If a single person thinks some CM93 charts are wrong then make a warning requester but nothing else. There are still other bugs which needs to be fixed than introducing an offset correction tool like this.
What about a nice logbook diary?
There are many things only half done. There is a half hour logbook entry in the opencpn.log but not a really nice logbook for the user. There is a route and waypoint function but only half completed. Instead resources are spend for nonsense. I am disappointed.

Re: OpenCPN Version 2.4 Beta Build 324
Gerhard,
Perhaps the reason you are disappointed is that OpenCPN was not developed with your needs in mind.
This software is intended for cruising sailors. It is tailored to provide maximum performance on minimum hardware.
Anything beyond these requirements must provide a lot of value at little cost. To this end, Dave has provided the ability to add plug-in's that allow the addition of features without greatly impacting the basic OpenCPN goals.
If you desire an additional feature please feel free to develop your own plug-in. Or, if you are not up to doing the development, you can request that this feature be added. Hopefully, a developer will also find that this feature is desirable and be willing to invest the time and effort to develop it's own plug-in.
One last thing -- Please don't characterize the efforts of the developers as nonsense.
Thank you,
Paul

Re: OpenCPN Version 2.4 Beta Build 324
All interested....
Regarding wgsox/y parameters:
I interpret these parameters as follows:
"In order to display this cell as WGS84, you must apply these offsets (wgsox, wgsoy) to the raw geographical locations in this cell in order to convert the cell to WGS84 before drawing".
Ratsea would read it as:
"This cell has already been adjusted to WGS84 by applying the wgsox, wgsoy parameters to the original survey data. wgsox/y are noted for information only."
Which is correct?
My favorite test location is E scale cm93 at
022 10.1250 N
075 44.0090 W
Without using the wgsox/y offsets, the chart is wrong by 900 metres (!!)
With the supplied wgsox/y, it is spot on.
So, I dunno....
Any more anecdotal stories?

Oh!I do notice a definite shift (cm93versus BSB) in 2.4 versus 2.3.1...I'm not afloat right now so can't say more than this-
the mark is ON the rock on my CHS kap.In 2.3.1 it is also on the rock using the kap a nd cm93...and this worked pretty well for me!
PS I mean the rock to the east of the mark...
Note the track also from a walk with my Garmin..

More weirdness...thy pot overfloweth!
It's about the grid....
to see this, the screengrab might need downloading for clarity.
the main point being, the grid versus the waypoint and the NAD83 chart,
is wrong.this is at
50N 125W

HappySeagull...
Odd. On my cm93, I see no offsets at this location. Mark is on the rock.
Could you check this:
Single chart mode, D scale chart in view, right click, select cm93 offset tool.
In the dialog, look at Cell number C4170705. Offsets?
Thanks
Dave

Re: OpenCPN Version 2.4 Beta Build 324
I will locate that exactly but to not keep you waiting, I know there are offsets in there because I tried the offset dialogue for the very first time and added the same values that were shown as negative ...and this corrected the CM93 so all was copacetic....Mine is not a new version by the way.I'll post this and get the exact for you. stand by!

Re: OpenCPN Version 2.4 Beta Build 324
Ok,Dave,I don't have THAT cell at this position.
I have:
D4140696 C X=156 Y=-40
(No letter)04180707 E X=-147 Y=-35
no user offsets

HS...
OK, that confuses me more. The cell indexes don't match.
Could we see a screen grab of the cm93offset dialog you quote?
Thanks

Re: OpenCPN Version 2.4 Beta Build 324
Dave,
I have noticed that the different scale CM93 charts for a given location sometimes use the WGS84 datum and sometimes they don't. An example can be found on the west coast of Baja just north of Cabo Falso (See example). The problem is not with the CM93 charts but with Mexico not providing detailed charts with correctable datums. In other words, the datums referenced by Mexico for their charts are incorrect. So, even if the Mexican charts are corrected to WGS84 from the referenced datum the charts will still be wrong. This is not unique to Mexico.
I suggest that you display the CM93 charts as close to the WGS84 datum as the cell info will allow. Any remaining corrections should be apply based upon visual navigation reference. That is, if your eyes show that you are in the channel and OpenCPN show that you are outside the channel, you should correct OpenCPN to match what your eyes see.
